Hello all! I have a 2018 1025r with a 60d mower deck, fel and rear hitch that I sometimes use at night and have noticed I need to upgrade my lighting system so I can see better when working after dark. I have looked thru 25 pages of search results on this site for “1025r work lights” and have read thru many of those threads, but most are 1+ years old and I’m hoping to get more current feedback and suggestions for the lighting upgrade I am about to do.

At this point, I’m thinking I will do this project in the following phases:
Phase-1… Upgrade current head and fender lights with led bulbs
Phase-2… Add tail light guards and install 4 led work lights on those guards… 2 forward and 2 rear
Phase-3… Add a light bar to the top of my rops. I might not do this as I usually don’t operate with my rops up as I have many trees with low hanging branches that my extended rops will not fit under, and I know what parts of my property need rops up. However I can envision situations where a light bar on top of rops would be helpful.

I would appreciate your suggestions for each phase, and I have the following questions:

Phase-1… Upgrade current head & fender lights with led bulbs
1. What specific bulbs do you recommend For head and fender lights?

Phase-2… Add tail light guards and install 4 led work lights on those guards… 2 forward and 2 rear
1. Is it best to use floodlights?
2. Do forward-facing lights placed on the top of the light guard, in combination with headlights & fender lights provide good lighting for fel use?
3. Do rear-facing lights placed on the bottom of the light guard provide good lighting to the rear for pto and low profile rear implements?
4. How should these 4 lights be “switched”?
… I’m thinking the 2 forward lights should be on the factory installed switch?
… I rarely drive on roads, but occasionally drive to neighboring properties, and I am in the road when pushing snow off the end of our drive, and I don’t want to blind any vehicles with the rear lights… is it essential to be able to independently turn the rear lights on/off, or is it adequate to simply aim the rear lights at the ground immediately behind the tractor?
5. What light fixtures do you recommend?

Phase-3… Add light bar to top of rops
1. What light bar do you recommend?

I would appreciate your suggestions to the questions above or any other questions/topics I need to consider for this lighting upgrade. TY!

I made a scaled down twin rops bar that fits within the existing rops & mounted it solid to the lower JD rops bars yet still above my head and mounted a wide led bar to it.....benefit is great lighting at night either sb'ing or mowing or for any other reason & its not in the way of anything.....
TY and I like that idea.
Could you post a pic?
What light bar did you install?
What do you use for rear lighting?… maybe your rear lights are mounted to that same bar you placed between your lower rops?

I put a magnetic mount yellow on top of rops. bad idea. it would keep coming off or I'd forget it was there. It was mainly for snow clearing in winter to have better visibility when on the street. Now I'd find one that bolts on with either u bolt or put a hole thru the ROPS top - like 1/4" and mount it underslung.

I have a small LED light bar mounted on the otp of the brush guard from original owner. its maybe 14 or 16" long and good because it gets over FEL or snow blower. The rear has a 12" light bar with seperate power switch also from original owner which works all. its right behind the seat

I'm currently doing the same 12 inch led light bar on top of my front brush guard and another one on the bar behind my seat between the left and right fenders both on separate switches then I have led lights on the frame on top of the turn signal guard
all on separate switches mounted inside my cab

That yellow light is a good idea for street presence. Does the light bar plus head and fender lights give really good illumination for fel work?

TY. I had not considered putting a light bar on my brush guard, thinking that the combination of led head, fender and forward work lights (2 on top of tail lights) would provide good light for fel work. Do you usually use the light bar on your brush guard when doing fel work? I also wonder how much light from the light bar gets reflected back at you when raising/lowering the bucket and if that might be a bit blinding?

no I mainly use it for plowing thats why I made the mount easy to remove tried it last winter and it worked out well for me when I was plowing
when I tried it out I had some reflection back but found if I didn't stare at it no real effects but if I needed to do any bucket work I could easily turn off that individual light and do the work I'll have to try it one night on low or amber and see how it is

Has anyone looked at adding small LED lights to the front side of the taillight on the ROPS? Seems like a good spot for one, and if the amperage is small you could use the tail light wiring.
