1026R FEL control stick

With a creaky back I find myself getting on & off my 1026 on the left side because the FEL control is in the way on the right side. Anyone have suggestions on manuvering around it? Can I remove it, shorten it, & thread it to reattach the knob?
Maybe Randy will start a sideline selling JD steps.

For any machine the left side is the main enter and exit side. I just automatically walk to to the left side for that reason. Sorry if this is not much help!
No advice here, but it's the same deal on the 2320, 2520, 2720. I gave up on our 2320.
There is enough room on the 2520 to mount on the right, but it is a little dodgy. Generally I mount on the left unless I am in tight quarters and cannot get to the left side.
Just like horses, I always mount on the left also.
This may be an "Old Tractor Guy" tale, but I always thought that we mounted tractors from the left side because with farm equipment, the pick-up side of balers, mower conditioners and forage harvesters and mower cutter bars are on the right hand side. Mounting on the left kept the operator away from the "business end" of the implement.

Just Think of yourself as a Cowboy.....always mount up on the left side....!!! :fed:

and leave your Spurs at home.....
Probably goes back to before recorded history when the first man mounted a horse and he was right handed.

Am I to assume that it is more difficult for you to mount from the left? You may have to modify your control handle. I am sure there are things you can do. I, like the rest here always mount from the left. I am not sure how different your 1026 is from my 2305 as far as mounting a step as well as the joy stick. Deere has really change things up on those fancy new models. Unfortunately I just have too many other projects to occupy my time. I will assist the best I can though.
Did some research on the step.

It is different but similar to the 2305. I would use item number 8 (attached diagram) mounting bolts to construct the mounting from. Certainly doable, you're half way there. :mocking: Time to have some fun.

A safety point, and the reason (or so I've been told) Deere doesn't make it easy to get out past the FEL SCV is that it's too easy to catch clothing on it as you move past and damage/hurt/kill something/yourself. Even if you can squeeze by it's much safer not to.
Very Good Point Hunter.

Another consideration is the location of the valve its self. I am not sure modifying the lever will completely solve your problem. Though the modification would be fairly straight forward. Here is the diagram of that.

on & off

I will leave my spurs at home & mount from the left. I will leave the FEL joy stick alone. Being a newbie I just assumed I could get on & off like my lawn tractor. Thank you everyone for your imput.
