1026R "fuel starved"

As posted last August, the fuel pump went out on my new 1026R within the first 6-hours of operation. Engine would run just fine for awhile, and then start to shut down... then take off again... finally, the pump just quit working entirely. The Dealer replaced the pump, and everything seemed fine. Have put about 50-hours on since the fuel pump was replaced.

Problem is: Tried using the tractor today, to move a bit of snow (leveling out some piles I had piled on the lawn from the driveway, with my Bobcat.., so the snow doesn't kill the grass). It ran fine for about 20-minutes, and then clearly was getting "fuel starved" again, like it was back when the original fuel pump went out. Engine would almost die; then, it would make its way back up to full speed. Managed to "limp" back to the shed, stopped it. Then, started it again: Let it idle for awhile... opened and closed throttle several times...., and it seemed just fine. But, did not go back out to move snow... was not about to have to tow it to the shed... so, just shut it down and went and got my old reliable, the "baby Bobcat".

Is it possible air got into the system someway (had not run the tractor since early December)? Or, maybe water in the fuel? Have winter diesel in it, and the John Deere diesel additive for winter. Or, is the fuel pump going out again?

Wondering too: I did not close the fuel shut-off valve back in December, the last time I ran it. I see the manual recommends closing it when in "storage". Not sure why this would be essential, but maybe something to do with it?

Any other 1026R owners having "fuel starved"/possibly fuel pump problems? Thanks....and, kind of disappointing, that the tractor is having these problems.

Which pump was replaced, electric or injection pump?

Electric.
Maybe its a fluke.

I have 77 hours on my machine and one day it acted similar. Basically only had the power you would have at an idle. I was mowing along and it lost power and sounded kinda funny. At an idle it sounded fine.

I was heading back to garage and it came out of it and never happened again. I think I had about 30 hours on it at the time. I checked the site bowl and everything looked fine. I just attribute it to something fuel related. Course I was worried about it for a couple weeks and then hour after hour went by and its been fine so not really worried any more.
With so few hours it would seem odd that it was a plugged filter. The machine will use more fuel when doing a task rather than sitting a revving the engine, so it might have to do with the amount of fuel needed. Could be the pump again, could be electrical?

I doubt water but possible. Sorry!
Had quit being concerned, too... now it is back

Yes, I hear you... had thought replacing the fuel pump had fixed it... problem seems to be back.
Probably not water

Yes... I agree... not likely water. It is just like the fuel pump is not putting out enough... or, it is "shutting down" momentarily, and then has to start up again. Wondering now if it is maybe the ignition switch or something...
Could be a simple electrical connection issue

You could leave the switch on and inspect/ wiggle the wiring harness and switch to see if the pump quits or goes intermittent. That wouldn't take long to do. If that didn't locate the trouble, I'd be calling my dealer.

I'm sorry to hear the troubles with your new tractor. :empathy:
Good ideai

Good...yes, need some detective work on this one...

Since it seems to do this when working the engine it sounds like a governor/solenoid that is bad in the main pump. If it was the small electric pump you'd have other issues. IMO.

Good suggestion. Will pass the thought along to the Dealer Tech... they came and got the tractor last week... speculating it could be "plastic shavings" in the tank.
Dealer could not find any problems

I mentioned this to the Dealer/Technician. He has worked on the tractor off and on for a week...cannot find anything wrong with it. Best theory: Perhaps some plastic scrap in the tank, or some such, that was moving around (the electric fuel pump went out within 6-hours, the first time). Maybe something was moving through the fuel system again, now at 60-hours... don't know.

Dealer bringing the tractor back tomorrow, after having run quite of fuel through it, checking electrical, pumps, etc.... I guess we will see: Putting it back to work this weekend!!
Glad to hear you are getting your tractor back! :thumbup1gif:

I'm sure they got it fixed for you. Now to get that tractor down to business.

Ran it on the roto-tiller today... Running great. Must have been foul fuel...or something in the tank that is finally flushed out. Dealer ran a lot of fuel through it, changed filters... Seems to be fine.
Glad to hear that it's running fine. I hope your troubles are behind you.

Just curious, how long did the dealer have it, and how many hours did he put on it?

Now that's getting the tractor some work to do. Glad you gave it a workout and the problems gone.
