125: Lights work but no power and won't start, Hours Meter will not show up either

My 6 year-old JD 125 won't start. The lights come on but when I turn the key to start there is nothing. Not a sound. I also noted the Hours indicator does not come on. PTO is not engaged and the emergency brake is locked down (normal starting set-up). Battery was the original from 2006 so I replaced it with a new sears diehard Silver. Nothing changed with the new battery. Do not have the money to send it out. My daughter was cutting grass and it stalled. She easily restarted it and thern parked it. I did not get to look at it for a few days. Local JD dealer asked if I can hand turn the motor which I can. Someplace I read it could be the started solinoid (spelling)?? Do any of you have a place for me to start looking for problems? Machine has only about 130 hours on it. Never abused. It did sit out in heavy rain one night by mistake but I know people who never garage their tractors and do not have problems. Thanks in Advance. Need to fix it today. Grass finally growing again after being almost dead from no rain.

Have you checked all the fuses to see if one was blown yet?

Thanks Brian. Only fuse I see is a 20 amp just below and in front of main battery. It is fine. Are there others?? Just called my JD dealer. He says try replacing main Solenoid. I also now can detect a clicking when I turn key. Clicking is coming from little round thing attached to bottom of carburator float bowl. What is that thing?? has two wires going into it. Dealer says it is an anti backfire thingamajig. Seems like an odd place for that. Anyway, power is getting to that and when I remove what i think is main solenoid I can still get a click out of that.

What other fuses are in there and where would they be??

Thanks!

Bob

I never had a 125 and I do not know what or where any fuses might be.

If you know what the starter solenoid looks like, you can jump it with a screw driver to see if the engine turns over. That will tell you if its bad. You could also use a multi meter to check how far power is getting, ie: if its even getting to the solenoid or if its getting past it.

I don't know about the 125, but just a thought. Have you checked the seat switch? If it is stuck open the tractor will not start:unknown: Good luck.:drinks:

OK--The starter solenoid has two spade connectors up top. Looking at it from front to rear, left has two wires and right has one. To bridge am I just using screwdriver to connect between left and right spade terminals after I remove wires?? I am not the most mechanically inclined person but not the worst either. can follow directions.

Thanks again.

Here is a video on how the solenoid works:

I agree with Jeff, it could be your seat switch or any other safety device. The video tells you how to do it a lot more safely than what I would tell you.

Do you have a multi-meter?

Update: Started messing with the safety switches. Just unplugged and plugged a few, then banged the lever that activated the cutting blades a little harder than normal. It now works. Tractor sat outside in the rain one night. It is almost always in the shed. Have no idea if that had any effect on sopmething but all is well. Thank you everyone for your comments and advise.
