I recently acquired a 1988 185 hydro with a 46" deck, from my brother who up dated to a zero turn & this was his back mower to his 277lx so it need some attention.

I set out to get it running replaced the battery and the brake safety switch fresh blades and new hydro fan...oil and filter change.

Well when I was removing the seat pan all went good...but I noticed that a spring was not hooked up on the deck Height knob, (ends seem good).
It is NOT the large lever to raise and lower the deck...Its the smaller knob on the left side as you sit in the seat.

Near as I can figure it is m71614 ...part of spring extension sub m89821 and m71559.

Any help would be appreciated

The photo below shows how the spring gets attached. It just runs from the seat pan to one end of the plastic bezel. The deck height rod just rubs against the side of it.

Thanks that clears that up:bigthumb:

NOT sound unapprecaiteable....but what does that spring really do there?? there is screw that holds the notched plate/cover on. It can't hold the adjustment rod up. Or is it suppose to hold the rod in which ever notch is selected??
