I am currently able to get several complete sets of these tires and rims for $10.00 each. I have a choice between turf or the R4 tires. The rear tires are 26x12x12, but the front rims and tires are 18x8.5x10. Is there any way I can upgrade the front weeks to 10”? I would like to upgrade my X495 and 445 if possible. I read that I would need a hub kit, or a 1” trailer hub would also work. Does anyone have any advice or additional info on the subject?

I can't speak to the front hub switch over on your tractors, but i sure would like to get a set of those 26/12/12 rear tires and wheels and the fronts for the 18/8.5/8 for the front of a 455......The tires looks great. Does the place you are getting them ship UPS?

Is your goal to put the front tires of the R4 style on your 445, the same size that are on the 1025r / 1026r / 1023e?

Frankly, as someone who has used both the small sidewall R4's on the front and the 18/8.5/8 that are on the 445 stock, I can tell you the taller sidewall front tires sure are easier to work with and have been less trouble for me.

I have a front tire on a 1025R which has been to the farm tire dealer twice and it still leaks around the bead. Also, the narrow sidewall tires of the R4 style do not like tubes and the original ones on your 445 will work great and last a long time with tubes. Other than the appearance, I am not sure what would be gained by changing the front hubs on your tractor for the R4 style tire.

This is one of those Friends of a Friends deals. I am planning to head back out there this coming week with my trailer. I can promise you they/he doesn’t ship UPS. This location is past the “middle of nowhere.” What do you think the cost to ship would be? I’m not sure how he got all these tires. I can also get 18x8.5x10 in turf tread too. I will let you know what I can do, and maybe we can work a deal out.

Personally, having used both types of tires, the R4's look "kickass" on whatever they are on. They make the machine look "serious" in my opinion. But to be totally honest, I would NOT want R4's on my 455. Not only do they scuff the lawn MUCH MORE than the turf tires, the traction in the snow isn't as good as the Turf Tires. I know, strange but true.

One of the great benefits of the R4 is they are a TOUGHER tire with stronger tire strength in the tread and thicker sidewalls. Since I use my 1025r to mow with the rear 3 point mower in some real rough land, I like the r4's for running over god knows what in the field, verses the turf tire. But beyond that and also being a little better for loads (like the front end loader, which isn't an issue for most X4xx or 445/ 455 owners) the Turf Tire is a more "diverse tire". I think the x4xx and the 445 / 455 is more useful with the turf tires.

I have seen people ship mounted tires and wheels with just sticking a label on them. No boxes, no pallets. Print a label and use the plastic wrap to secure it to the tire and off they go. It's been awhile since I lifted the 26/12/12 rear tires and wheels, but I bet they don't weigh more than 30 to 40 pounds each, if that. I just had the front tire and wheel off my 1025r and that can't weigh 15 to 18 pounds each complete. It's not very heavy (or I have gotten very strong
)

So then its just a matter of zip codes to determine the shipping. I can calculate the freight and I will, and post another reply on here for what I think it would cost.

If the freight makes sense and the cost is as you described, I would be willing to buy some of each if we can work things out. Of course, if it's out in the middle of no where, your time is worth considering as well.

The 26x12x12 tires should weight about 27 pounds each.

The 18/8.5/8 tires should weigh about 11 pounds each.

The wheels should weight about as follows 26x12x12 13 to 15 pounds each and the 18/8.5/8 wheels should weigh about 8 pounds each.

That puts each rear tire at 40 to 42 pounds and each front tire at 19 to 21 pounds.

Since they would be shipped separately, I calculated shipping each one instead of combining them.

Big question is how much does the air inside them weigh?

UPS ground would cost $45 per rear tire and wheel and $28 front tire and wheel.
This is using your listed zip code based upon your profile and mine cuz I know where I live (It's Friday afternoon and I am starting to get giddy......)

So basically, for about $150 in freight, it looks like I could have a set of tires and wheels shipped to me. Now, whatever the cost would be for buying the tires, handling, and for your time and effort would the other consideration.

I assumed the shipping was UPS retail, regular ground delivery. We are a UPS shipper but I didn't want to use that cost as its not the same as someone who walks into a UPS facility at the counter.

That's the other issue. We have a UPS shipping distribution center about 5 miles away. If someone has to use a "UPS Store" or one of their retail locations, the costs are likely higher.

The shipping costs don't scare me away for a full set of tires and wheels. Let me know what you think the cost would be for (2) 26/12/12 tires and wheels and (2) 18/8.8/8 front tires and wheels. The tires and wheels in your picture looked like new. The tires still had the knubs on them. The R4 still had the mold flashing on them.

Let me know what you find. If it's too much trouble for you since you would be in the middle, I understand that as well. Perhaps another way to deal with the shipping would be for us to send a "call Tag" where UPS picks them up from you at your home or business, to reduce your time and labor commitment.

We can pursue the details if the situation works out for you. Again, if it turns out to be more hassle for you than it's worth, I would certainly understand. Just tell me if that's the case.

Turns out my guesses were pretty close. When I looked them up, I got the tire weight from Carlisle Tire Catalog and the Wheel Weight from shipping on Amazon. :good2:

You are correct, all tires and rims are NEW!! Looks like they have never touched the ground or even been mounted. I will definitely keep you posted. This is the brand of the turf tires.

I had the exact same combination of 26-1200x12 rear tires and 18-850x10 front tires on my 322. Got the tires and rims from a CUT owner that was converting to R4 all around and sold me the turf ones for really cheap at the time ($150.) Here is a picture of the 322 with those Multi-Track CS turfs on it...

I used the Deere front hubs since the spindles on the 322 were metric -- they just go right on. If you do this 10 inch front rim with 5 lug holes on an older tractor with 1 inch spindles...that is when you need the small trailer hubs (as seen here on a 317 tractor with the same wheels...)

Here is a shot of the 317 with 8 inch 5 lug front wheels and ribbed tires (for better clearance to the mower deck...) This setup still has the 24 inch diameter rears to make it all set level.

I looked at doing the front wheel changeover on my 425. From my research what you need are the following:

(2) Wheels, M139005 - this was/is used on the 1025R, X749,729, 748, 728, 2305, 2210, X595, 585, 575
(2) Hub, AM140109 or AM133791 which was/is used on the X485 and the X720
(10) Bolts, M144698

As a couple people mentioned, it's really just an appearance thing but they do look nice. If you buy all the stuff new it's quite a bit of money but if you scrounge the parts used, it would make a nice changeover.

What are they originally off? Looks like a 1025R wheel. I'd be interested in the set, depending how many you have of the R4s. I see sulley broke down costs for transport but what are your cost. PM me if you want to sell them to me.

I’m currently at DollyWood with my family. My plan is to return this coming week, and then I will have a better idea on what’s available, quantity, and what we can agree is a fair price. By the way, I can’t wait to return!!! Haha

You might try using Liquitube on the tire with the bead leak. It's a tire sealant that doesn't mess up the rim and if you change the tire you can wash it out with a hose- no hassle getting it out. I'm going to put some in a wheelbarrow tire today that is very dry rotten but since I don't use the wheelbarrow much, I don't feel like changing the tire.

Boy that stuff looks almost to good to be true! Does it affect balance in on road tires? That like WD40, military developed? If the military doesn't have it, they should.

One thing I must inform y’all about is the color of the rims. The rims are a different color than John Deere yellow. The rims are a yellow orange color. I will take a picture of the two colors this evening. My plan was to repaint the rims. These rims and tires have never been mounted, so I’m not sure the “brand” tractor they were intended for. For what it’s worth, they are identical to my original JD rims. Is there a “universal” style rim that is used across the industry?

Rattle can, here we come.......:laugh::lol:

Depending upon the final price, I may want a couple of sets........One set of the turf tires for sure for my 2,600 plus hour 455 still running the original tires (and they still look pretty good and work) and a set of R4's that I would likely have as a "Grooved Set" for my 1025R.

Heck, maybe even a set of Turf Tires for the 1025R for summer running around on the grass since the turf tires scuff the lawn much less. We will have to see.

Seriously, I would think the front tires on the 1025r would need very little as they aren't very big. Sure looks like it would take care of my slow leak issue. Have you used this stuff and is it only available through the website or do farm stores, etc. carry it?

Road balance

My understanding is that it's not good for smaller tires at road speed. It's ok in medium truck tires and larger, say 10:00-20's and up but will cause some balance issues in passenger and light truck tires.

It worked in my wheelbarrow tire which had so many cracks in it that I had real doubts. It didn't do much for the wooden handle though that promptly broke from dry rot and sitting so long! So now I've got a pumped up tire on a broken wheelbarrow. :banghead: Time to make some new handles.

I will say the stuff cleans up as easily as advertised. I dripped a little when I disconnected the hose from the valve stem and a quick spray from a hose made it go away. So in my limited test of one tire it sealed the tire and cleaned up easily. I'll give it :good2:

It's available in quarts, gallons and larger pails. I used 16 oz in a wheelbarrow tire that has multiple cracks from dry rot and it sealed those pretty much immediately. Locally our Farm Bureau Products division handles it. I believe Kubota and Toro both sell it under their labels at a higher price. I checked the local Kubota dealer and their price is about 20% above the Farm Bureau price. I don't know about Toro. Since it's non-toxic and not flammable, shipping should not be an issue except for weight.
