My son was mowing the lawn yesterday and told me the blades stopped. Got home from work and took a look.

Belt is fine, started it up and pulled the PTO switch - nothing. Had the hood open, reached around and grabbed the plug on the back of the switch - nothing. stood up to get a look at the wiring and the blades started turning, but it immediately shut the engine off.

Sat down, and it started. pulled the PTO switch - nothing, until I stood up. Blades started turning, engine shut off.

Discovered that the engine will continue to run when I get off the tractor, with or without the brake on.

I'm thinking the PTO switch is bad, but any other thoughts, based on the symptoms?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sure sounds like a bad pto switch... JD part # AUC10632 for $27.12.

Brakes do not shut tractor down, but ARE required to be set in order to start. Bob

Turns out it was not the PTO switch. It was the wire broken off the connector that plugs into the PTO clutch. Took the connector apart and soldered the wires back on. All is well now.
