Engine knock that is not consistent with rpm. At idle can not hear a knock but at about 1/4 throttle I can hear a knock about every 3 seconds. It gets quicker with higher rpm. Changed the oil/filter but still knock. Can really feel it by putting hand on starter. Starter and flywheel appear ok. Sent my son who works for Cat the oil filter to open it and check for metal shavings. Any ideas on what direction to go next? Son lives quite a distance from the farm.
Thanks

Did you check the hydraulic pump drive coupling at the front of the engine?

Ditto on checking hyd pump drive coupler for wear. Worn coupler bushings can make some strange noises. Also randomly loosen inj lines with engine running as noise could be faulty injector.

Definitely rule out any problem with the pump coupler. Does noise change if using hydraulics? If not then pump coupler is probably ok. It sounds, by your description to be a spun rod bearing. I would drop the oil pan and check for metal in the pan and to see if any bearings are loose.
