Often times the latch plate has oblong mounting screw holes that allow it to adjusted up and down. Try loosing the bolts and sliding the assembly down. This will put a little tension on the latch and hopefully cure the rattle.

Fixed, Just the gentle pur of the Yanmar!

This was easy to do! I removed the latch, just 2 little Cotter Pins. Careful you dont bang your head. There was no way to make any mechanical adjustment . The 2 pieces of metal join together at a factory welded hinge piont. There is a lot of slop there, so I shimmed the slop with electrical tape. I used 3M Super 33. It is good in all temperatures, Super 88 is even better. I started by wrapping as close as I could to the pivot point. Wrap tightly, I think I got about 5 wraps on and then started wrapping in a single layer all the way up the length. This was not needed though because the hinge doesnt completely close. I think only about 3 " is needed to be wrapped. I closed the hinge and it was tight but the metal shaved away the extra tape for a perfect fit. I worked it in a few times and trimmed away the excess shavings. I then covered the area with baby powder to absorb all the exposed gooey tape adhesive. I installed it and it works great!

In case someone comes across this. I just fixed mine today after 10 years on annoyance.
I used two flat washers to take up the gap around the lower hood stand mount.
I shuffled through a few different thickness washers to find a pair that filled the gap. So easy I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner.
