The voltage regulator is internal to the alternator.

Try searching the term "diode", I seem to recall that if one of the "V" diodes goes bad the system won't charge.

that is what i thought but they call it a dynamo alternator. is that the sameas a regular alternator?
Don't know. Is the "Alternator / Battery Charging light" illuminated on the instrument panel?

yes the battery is on below 1500 rpm. i believe there is a regulator/rectifier and i believe it is the problem with my tractor.
