83 318 with new (nos long block from Boomer) with 140 hours on it. Has a 2-speed transaxle that I added
Tractor seems way down on power, especially in high gear.
Checked ignition - all good - engine hitting on both cylinders.
Pulled and cleaned carb and adjusted - all good.
Full throttle - engine struggles to reach 3000 rpm (tach verified)
New hygard fluid and filter when I replaced to motor last year.

Disconnect driveshaft - engine “back to normal” - full throttle - 3450rpm - immediate on full throttle, no struggle

Added a CTC front end loader about 9 months ago - routine use - no abuse.

I think maybe the pump is the cause of the problem.

What’s the best way to verify my assumption?

Am I reading correctly when you say that you disconnected the driveshaft and it fixed your issue?
I'm assuming that if that's the case, the issue returned after you reconnected the driveshaft.
If that indeed, Issa the case, then my first assumption would be that there is some sort of tension or binding going on in the driveline.
That's just my first guess based on what I'm assuming.
