3320 TLB options

I would like to get some feedback on a few options for a 3320 TLB. I've been in the process the last few weeks deciding between Deere and Kubota and also trying to figure out exactly what configuration I would want on a 3320.

First option is to delete the heavy-duty bucket w/ cutting edge and replace with a Frontier 4-in-1 bucket (AY11H) that uses the JDQA bracket. I already had the tractor quoted with the 3rd SCV so with the extra bucket cost and loader hydraulics is going to be around $2k assuming I don't also buy a tooth bar. From what I can discern the Frontier 4-in-1 has 3 welded on cutting edges already and weights 360 lbs, but I don't know how much a HD bucket with cutting edge weighs. I haven't been able to sit on or drive a 3320 with loader attached, and I am a little concerned about visibility to get the most effective use out of a 4-in-1 bucket.

Second option would be to add the mechanical thumb to the 485 backhoe with 18" HD bucket. Still waiting to find out how much extra this will cost but the list price appears to be ~$1050.

Since I will be financing over 60 months the incremental cost to add these isn't that bad, but if either of these is a poor choice for a 3320 then I won't think about spending the extra money.

Third option, or choice rather, is what size box blade to get. I was initially thinking about the BB2172 but after reading some posts it seems like 72" is too wide for a 3320 with R4 tires. Is a BB2060 (or similar model from Woods/Bush Hog/etc) the right size?

Thanks!

I would get the 4n1, should be great for clean up work. As far as the box blade, I wouldn't get the 72", just to big. I would try to find the heaviest 66" unit that you can, you will be happy with that size. And I would get a 60" before I got a 72" unit, but a 66" would be ideal. Are you getting 1 or 2 rear remotes? If you are going to be doing much grading, it sure is nice to have both the Top & Tilt cylinders for the 3pt hitch.

Sorry that I can't help out with the back hoe question. Good luck with your search and decision.
I've got 4-1 bucket and love it. You get a feel for working with it.
And I have a 72in box blade.

I've got 3720 with cab. It handles the 72bb pretty good but I think it might be to big for 3320
Thanks. I emailed my salesperson and he agreed that a 60" BB would be better than the 72" for the 3320. With R4 tires the 60" should cover the tracks. Backhoe thumb was $1400 so I am going to pass on that but I will probably get the 4-in-1 bucket.

I'm sure the 4 in 1 bucket would be a great tool but if you're going to be handling lots of material you might want to check the capacity. I believe it's significantly lower than a comparably sized standard loader bucket.

The hydraulic thumb for the backhoe is another great tool especially if you're digging rocks, roots and stumps.

I've been looking at the 3X20 series myself. I like the larger displacement non-turbocharged engine in the 3320 as compared to the smaller displacement turbocharged engine in the 3520 & 3720. Simplicity = Reliability. I don't plan on pulling any large ground engaging attachments other than a rear tiller so engine power rating is a non-issue and otherwise the tractors are all identical. For mostly loader and backhoe work there's no significant advantage to the 3520 or 3720. The 485 backhoe has some pretty impressive specs but is not a cab-compatible unit.

That's odd. JD shows a BH on a cabbed 3x20 in their brochure. Did they change something and not update the brochure?

The regular 61 bucket is 10.6 cu ft heaped capacity and the 4-in-1 bucket heaped capacity is 11.2 cu ft.

Bradco makes the Frontier bucket, here is the owners manual with specs: http://paladinlightconstructiongroup.com/cms/files/OM720.pdf

There are 2 model backhoes that fit on the 3000 series. The bigger 485 will only fit on the open station.

Thanks for clearing that up!

The 375 BH can be used with cab and open station 3X20's but it's a far cry from the 485 in terms of digging depth.

I was unaware of 2 different models of BHs available for the 3x20 models. :unknown:

10-4 however the larger 72" bucket could easily be considered standard for the 3X20's.

IIRC the 475 is for the cabbed 3x20's, and the 485 can go on the open station 3x20's as well as both the cabbed and open station 4x20's.
I'm heading back to the dealer tomorrow to hopefully get my new TLB ordered (assuming the JD financing works out). I have done enough research and tire kicking and YouTube video watching, now to actually pull the trigger. Then I can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday without thinking about tractors :)

65" box blade is the correct size for the 3320. Woods offers a 65" unit. A 60" won't cover your tracks. If your in a sandy loom area a 72" will be fin also.
The thumb for the 485 is well worth the money. I'd highly recommend it.

I think the 60 will just cover the tracks of the R4 tires. It would not cover turf tire tracks though.

I did decide to add the backhoe thumb to the quote. Hopefully it will get used enough to justify the extra cost.
I ordered both the 4in1 and the 485 w/thumb with mu 3520. One thing I will point out is that you cannot use the backhoe and the 4in1 at the same time. When the backhoe is connected to the power beyond, the 3rd SCV does not operate. It is a bit of a pain to keep switching the hoses. I wouldn't give up the 4in1 though -- I really love it. Ditto the bh thumb, love it too. Both are worthwhile upgrades.

My 4720 is plumbed the same way. I don't have a hoe (yet). I think I would be inclined to replumb it so I could use a grapple at the same time. Do you suppose thy will ever have a hydraulic thumb for the 485?
Well I heard back from the dealer today and the financing was approved and they've already ordered the major components so now I just have to wait 3-4 weeks for everything to get there and be assembled. I went with a 3520 instead of 3320 since I will most likely buy a chipper and rotary cutter later on. Should be ready right around Christmas, what a great present to myself
