Looking to get a 3pt mounted chipper/shredder for my 3032e. I have a smaller TroyBilt that I tow behind my JD580 lawn tractor but need/want something bigger. Been looking online and found the ones listed below. anyone have any experience with any of these or others?

Nova Tractor BX52 wood chipper

thanks

Jim

I've got a Woodland Mills WC46 to run behind my 1025R and it's served me well. They have several larger models as well. The only thing I ever found lacking in my 1025R is that I would like to be able to run a bigger chipper. You have an advantage there.

I wouldn't rule out a stand alone chipper. It's going to probably cost more and you'll have another engine to maintain but it frees up your tractor to do other things, like scoop up a bucket of chips and take them away. A woodchipper hanging off the back is big and heavy and really limits the maneuverability of a tractor.

I have a Woodland Mills WC88 that I use on my 4320 and I love it.
My one piece of advice is get something with in feed roller That feeds the brush in.

I have a hanmey 3pt chipper similar to the titan in size. I bought it slightly used, as the person who originally had it did not really have enough pto hp to run it. It works well. I still have one of those troybilt chipper shredder things and I have been trying to practically give it away and nobody wants it. They are way too much work.

I've got the Titan 42 - Run it on a 1025R. So far has taken everything I've tried to put through it. I got it used for a great price. If I was buying new, I'd want something with hydraulic power feed. At 2k for the Titan new, a little bit more than 3k for something with a powered feed would be worth it if you're using it a more than 2-3 times a year.

I notice the vast majority of 3pt chippers are just that: pure chippers. However, the small engine chipper/shredders include shredding. The Woodland Mills (wrong unit!) MacKissic is unusual in that it includes a shredder in a 3pt unit. How important is the shredder?

I currently have a small 4" tow-behind chipper/shredder and extensively use the shredder for small branches, leaves, pine cones, and other debris that would be a serious pain to have to load in the much smaller chipper chute. Not to mention the extra damage it would do to the knives, as this debris more commonly includes pebbles, dirt, and sand that's very difficult to sort free. (I try, but stuff gets missed.) I'm very tired of sharpening knives; in the 80 hours I've used the machine, I've gone through four new knives and many sharpenings.

So, yeah, at some point I'm getting something better. How important is it to get the shredder function?

The very issue you have with your shredder (stones & hard objects) says keep it away from the chipper. Pile & compost it along with the chips.

Had a MacKissic TPH-122 for 16 years. Used to shred up to 100 bags of leaves collected from town. Leaf source dried up, and I needed one with a less vertical chipper hopper.

So, last fall we got a WM WC46 for the 2025R. Had had the Mac on a 4010 and a 1025R and the 2025R. The 2025R just loafs along on the WC46, but the 550 # is noticeable on our hills. Would not want any more weight back there.

Yours would run a WC88 easily and probably tolerate the higher weight.

The WM WCs have a near horizontal inlet feed chute with hydraulic feed. The feed does do a stop a little more often than the Mac ever did but is nice to have.

I also have a 3032e and just ordered a Woodmaxx MX-8800. I'll be able to let u know how well it works in a couple of weeks but most of the reviews seem to be positive

Not sure I understand? Are you suggesting I should pile the stuff that I would ordinarily shred and let it compost whole? Unfortunately, I cannot allow that. Those brush piles are basically a wildfire waiting to happen. I need to get them into a form that won't be the start of a fire. A chip pile can definitely burn, but generally by the time you've lit a chip pile, everything else is already on fire anyway.

(EDIT: Just as a note, much of the brush is dry pine twigs and branches. Bark beetles are devastating my monterey pines. I've got a dozen more dead trees to fell now with more dying. It's staggering how quickly these beasts kill the trees and the almost complete lack of mitigation available.)
