I too added a quick hitch and removed the storage clip. But in answer to your question, and with out pictures I will take a stab at it. My guess is your hook just needs a little tweek. Here is what I would do. Remove the hook from the tractor and put it in your vice and give a gentle squeeze to close the hood ever so slightly. Then re-install it. You should be good to go. Word of caution, don't over do the bending as you will find that is a stiff hook and you may not be able to insert the top link. Use your top link and test your adjustments before you install it. If all that still fails, I will be more than happy to send you my spare.
