My 4700 has the 3 spool valve stock. So I know there used to be a kit that is now out of stock or EOL or something.
What exactly is required if I want to add in the 3rd scv to the FEL so I can use my Grapple?

I understand that there are steel hoses in the kit - could one use flexible hose instead?

Is the actual 3rd spool present in the existing valve body?


(I did look through a few pages of search results and interesting reading, but there are like 300 pages of results for '3rd SCV' )

Not sure about the 4700 but all the individual parts were available for my 4200. Ask your dealer to do a "dealer search" for the kit.

yes you could use hoses

yes the 3rd spool is part of the existing body if you have a loader

the difficult part to putting together a "kit" is the actual control mechanism for the spool IE the handle ...bracket...cable...etc........putting two hoses out the back is the easy part

i found a factory kit for my 4500 on ebay about 8 yrs ago, even back then it was NOS ....if you can even by it part by part im sure its outrageous that way

if you happen to find a kit it is not a hard install at all

the added SCV is a great option i use it all the time .....the handle/cable setup is pretty "jinky" but it works

i still have my installation manual......(first couple of pages attached showing parts) ...note this is for two types of kits....single spool and third spool (your looking to work with the third spool that is already on your tractor) so you would ignore the parts that say single spool beside them

also adding for you and others that might need this information...this is a picture of the 3 spool valve out of the tractor showing the two used valves and the one unused plugged one.......when i installed the kit i did it all on the tractor

Under $1K dollars. The two hardlines followed by the fender mount lever assembly were the most expensive. The bellcrank/bushing was about $85 but worth it as it fits just right in place. I started getting the minimal parts needed, then decided to get rest. Figured, might as well do it factory.

thats not to bad in todays $s.......i think the factory kit cost me in the 4-500 range probably 8-10yrs ago.....cetainly excellent information for the OP ...thx sir

So talking with a hydraulic expert here, he points out that if you add the 3rd SCV the factory way, your control is up on the fender by the cup holder. If your wanting to control a grappel up front with it, that is more cumbersome than a thumbswitch on the joystick to control the grapple - which there are off shelf solutions for that don't involve the 'free' third spool. Also for a grapple function having proportional control is not really needed.

Options:
1) stock 3rd SCV
needs linkages and pipes and hoses

2) thumb switch the joystick 'lift' function to 'grapple' function.
needs just some diverter kit and hoses?

3) I assume another option is to have a rocker switch on the joystick that controls a solenoid valve that gives an attachment an 'open' - 'neutral' - 'closed' control, but at a fixed flow rate
not sure if there are kits for this - probably

To add a grapple to your 4700, the WR Long 3rd function kit is probably the best option, it operates like you described in option #3.
