I’ve contemplated this for quite some time and so at the beginning of spring I ordered an a Deere AY11F (53”) 4 in 1 bucket and Summit Hydraulics diverter kit. I recently received and installed them both and have about 15 hours of seat time running them.
Before everyone starts telling me why THEY wouldn’t own one, I thought I’d first mention a few things that made ME want to own one.
1. I’ve run other equipment with this type of bucket before, so I had a pretty good idea of what it would/would not do.
2. This bucket is a tool, and just like any tool it’s dependent on the person operating it and the task it’s being asked to perform. Kind of like buying an expensive screwdriver then using it as a prybar or wedge using a hammer. Yes, you can use it like that, but don’t be surprised (or upset) when it breaks or doesn’t do as good of a job as a tool designed specifically for a single task.
3. This bucket can do a number of different tasks, each one with the limitations you’d expect from a multi-use tool. I’d love to have each of the specialized attachments that a 4-1 bucket tries to emulate, but simply can’t justify the cost. Instead I understand the limitations of a multi use tool, and do my best to minimize them.
4. I maintain deer hunting property with my tractor so I’m constantly moving rocks, trees, stumps etc. I maintain ditches, food plots and gravel paths and driveways. While I DO have other attachments such as a backhoe, box blade, rock bucket, forks, etc. I now leave the 4-1 bucket on the tractor until I find the need to use something different. Said another way, my standard bucket is going to get very lonely.
5. I love the versatility of digging one minute, then clamping a log, using it as a dozer blade, then opening it wide and rolling it forward to clean out a ditch. All without having to leave the seat
6. Any attachment purchase is a personal choice. Since I didn’t ask you to pay for it, don’t tell me I shouldn’t own it.
I’m very happy with both purchases and am writing this simply to say that we’re very fortunate to have so many attachment choices these days. I’ve always appreciated the many honest reviews I’ve read here, and simply wanted to contribute one of my own.
