Hi, I just purchased a 4066r. I'm doing some contract slashing with my 5ft 40hp kanga slasher, but would like more productivity as my last job was 200 acres on a solar farm. Would the 4066 run an 8ft slasher?
Thanks
Kanga’s Slasher can be used for the effective cutting and clearing of grass and low ground shrubbery. Models available come complete with hoses and couplers. Ideal for landscaping, agriculture, roadway maintenance, parks maintenance, and general slashing. Features Adjustable height Heavy duty...

Steve, you seem to be a slashing expert ninja... is this your line of work?
The link above shows a 1200 mm model, which is 47 inches. Did you have a different 60 inch model? BTW, congrats on the 4066R!
ave ordered a new cab 3046r here in Australia. It will be mainly used to maintain a 50 acre horse property, but I would also like to do some contracting slashing (bush hogging) with it.
I did look at your post in above link and now see you are in AU, also that a slasher is what I would generically call a rotary mower. I assume that a slasher is not necessarily hydraulic motor driven (even 4066R would have limitations at 11.2 GPM (42.3 LPM)). So, another way to ask your question is if a 4066R (52 hp at PTO) handle 8 ft rotary mower, like MX8?

So I went to the dealer and got this MX8 today... man that thing was a pain to load and unload... and this H180 loader sure seems weak, as it barely lifted the mower off the trailer.
Looks like Deere recommends min hp of 50 and you have 52 hp at PTO for the MX8. The MX8 weight is 1670 lb. Seems like a lot is going to depend on how thick the vegetation is that you slash. I personally would recommend you leave some hp available for tough task. Perhaps consider the 2100 mm (~7 ft) rotary mower in the link you sent?
I base my recommendation based upon experience with JD 5400 and 7' Bush Hog brand rotary mower.
Perhaps others with 4066R will comment their experience...

Hi, I have a 4052R and I mow around 40 acres with a 8' Bush Hog Rotary Cutter. It is a 3 point hitch type and it's the old 2 gear box type. The new model I believe has 3 gear boxes. I have never had a problem running it and you have a little more power with the 4066R. I have mowed probably around 2" trees and I have made the slip clutch slip. Now in the pasture grass I can't even feel that it's under a load and I never run my tractor to 540 pto rpms. I run it around 400-450 rpm to save on fuel. The only thing I would say is that if your pastures are bumpy the weight of the cutter will be felt. I have a 5', a 6' and this 8' cutter but it feels like I finish in half the time with the 8'. I highly recommend it to save a lot of time. Better yet if I could afford it and if I didn't transport mine so much I would go with a small light duty batwing, 10' or 12'. The problem is I transport mine a lot and a batwing is twice as much as an 8' of this type.
Tim, I have followed the Rhino TS-10 pull type videos since released. I think the number one take away from the video for me is that the flex to follow the contour of the land leaves a nice finish. Difficult to get in a wider single blade rotary mower.
I know you have used your 2038R and been honest about repairs you experienced. Your viewers appreciate that. I would be tempted to use the TS-10 on a MCUT, but probably would avoid. I would use the TS-10 on 4066R on a piece of land I owned for occasional use, easy decision. I struggle with the recommendation of day-in-day-out contract mowing use, not straining tractor design, and risk of premature failure.
Part of my understanding has been that there is momentum (mass x rotational velocity) to rotary mowers. Get them up to speed and then ease into the load. Slow down if in thick vegetation if near machine's hp capacity. Is your experience that the two blade hubs (four fold out blades?) are easier to keep rotating than say an 7' (corrected) single hub (two fold out blades) rotary mower behind your 2038R?
Also, I would add that pull-type makes sense to avoid mass on 3-point hitch if tractor is a bit undersized.
