I was offered a skid steer planetary drive unit (auger) that claims to require "15-30 GPM up to 4500 psi". Is there any chance of this unit having enough torque to sucessfully drive a 24" auger using the IV of V rear SCV's on a 4066R? Am I correct that at the lower flow the auger would just turn slower?

I think that you would be asking to much of the tractor. I believe that at only about 2/3rds of the minimum GPM requirement, the auger would perform very poorly.

Are your SCVs electric of manual? I believe that the electric SCVs are not rated for constant use such as any hydraulic motor anyway. This should to be verified by looking in your owners manual.

They are manual with the IV valve having a constant flow option. I also have a power beyond, but would not be able to reverse the auger.

Well, with the manual valves you can at least run the auger. I have no idea the performance that you would get with like I said, about only 2/3rds of what the auger calls for at a minimum. Will it work, it should, but it may take you all day to dig a single hole. I have no idea of how fast it will spin. If you can get a killer deal on it, then get it and try it out. If you don't like it, then sell it.

Good luck.

Your GPM is 10.2, and your pressure is 2500, both are below the average skid steer loader. I think you'd be disappointed myself, especially with a 24' auger.

At least you have the power beyond to fall back on. Besides, the rest of us do not have a reverse option anyway. Might be nice to have if I get mine stuck, but if you keep on your toes and raise and lower the auger as you are digging, it will not get stuck. Once those augers start really digging, they will dig to China if you are not on your toes.

For what?

Your still only going to get 10.2 GPM at 2500 PSI. If using the PB circuit then the auger is spinning whenever the tractor is running-there is NO control over that.

I appreciate the replies. I tried the drive unit today with a 24" auger and it worked fine running off the rear 5th SCV. Was able to reverse it and it did not bog down at all. I was able to vary the auger RPM with engine speed. At low RPM it spun pretty slow but at mid engine speed it seemed to have plenty of torque. I think this will work fine for me for maintaining fences and gates. Thanks again! By the way the unit was a Titan Industries 4500 Drive unit. I have been very impressed with this company!
