Good afternoon yall, I been chewing on an idea and see if anybody had some input, I have high lift standard blades and need to replace the blades and was curious if the mulch blades with a chute block off would work fine without alot of blow back. Blocking off the chute with the high lift blades is a terrible dusty idea....

You didn't mention what tractor you have. Not that it really matters. Quite a few owners replace with the John Deere mulch blades, and there are quite a few owners who will use the Oregon Gator blades! I'm one of those Gator blade guys. I've used them on all my equipment, and will put them on my new X390 too! I really like the way they cut. No complaints!:)

X750 ... sorry lol. I have tried a makeshift chute cover and the amount of airflow just made that a bad idea...

I've tried Gator blades on several machines and remain unimpressed. I recommend you get the full time mulch kit for your machine and use the OEM mulching blades that come with it and you will not be disappointed. That's what I use on my X758 and I will never go back to mowing any other way.

I only need the mulch kit for fall... I think the rest of my yard would be to much to try to mulch. Plus the mulch kits are freaking expensive.... I would go with the bagger system that runs off the rear pto but all that jazz is way too expensive.... I'm just looking do mulch up the leaves a little more... with the high lift blades it shoots the leaves out in full form, not even cut at all... it just blows them around...

The full time mulch kit on my x738 turns 6" deep wind blown piles of oak leaves into pure confetti.

I was mowing 4-5 acres worth of baseball fields and grounds this spring with the mulch kit on and it never slowed me down, clogged up, or left a clump. The mulch kits on the HC decks really do work incredibly well. No special blades needed just the stock ones.

Is there alot of blowout from under the deck when you get into bare area with no grass?

I haven't had any blowout issues with the mulch kit. The exhaust pipe blowing on the ground scatters things around though.

The deck does drop clippings on areas where there is no grass if you now from one area to the next. Not much you can do about that because that's exactly what a mulching deck is supposed to do is put the clippings back on the ground.

For pine needles you could always get a pine needle rake. They are handy to have and fairly cheap as implements go.
