A freind of mine has a 2006 Deere 6615 with about 3500 hours on it. It recentley started having a problem with the throttle. After the tractor runs in the field for about 45 minutes it will slow down about 250 rpms and stay there or flutter around there for about 5 minutes or so then go back to normal. When it does this i can pull the hand throttle or push the foot throttle to bring the engine back up to speed. It does not seem to lack for power and no strange smoke or missing. Also while he was hooking up a mower the tractor was idling and for no reason reved up about 1,000 rpms and then back down again on its own.
There are no codes in the system about the problem. John Deere is stumped.
He heard about the factory cloth fuel lines being a problem letting air into the system so we replaced all of the fuel lines in the system and installed a fuel pressure gauge that can be viewed from the cab to see what the fuel pressure is doing when the tractor has this problem. the fuel pressure is between 3.5 and 7 (within specs) all the time and there is no change in the pressure when the tractor is having this problem. We have changed the filters many times and checked all the electrical connectors. I am convinced this is an electrical issue not a fuel delivery issue.
The dealer just wants to start throwing expensive parts at it which we don't want to do. I was hoping someone on here may have had a similar problem and may have a solution.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi im jacob. My father has a 6615 that has 16500 hours on it. we've had problems like this with ours for some time. it will run full throttle when were using it and for no apperant reason the rpms will vary from 1700 and 1200 and will sometimes sound like its not hitting on all six. We have also changed fuel lines because they will let air in system. The main fix we did was run 2 wires straight from brain box to the end of injector pump. changed the end which you can pick up at autozone. it started again this week and found out the end was burnt and so was the "cap" that attaches on the end of the pump. these things use only millisecond or 2 firing so with the small wire, sometimes you cant get the signal you need. you have to have a tool to push and release the 2pins out of the connector on the brain box. put heavier wire to the brain box and run it striaght to the injector pump.replace cap and temp sensor that comes from deere and it should run fine. no kidding this tractor runs 3-6 hrs a day and has 16500+ hours on it.A freind of mine has a 2006 Deere 6615 with about 3500 hours on it. You wouldn't happen to have part# for this sensor would you? If you try using the number that's stamped it, the number changes to a sensor for your rocker armsProblem solved
We have a 6415 that had a similar issue. Tractor would be at idle and then engine would throttle up with no adjustments to the throttle leaver. Sometimes you would be at 1800 RPM's and throttle would either jump or drop off. John deer said it was the fuel injector pump. Many dollars later and a replaced pump problem seemed to be solved. Then it happened again. After taking the cover off of the top and side panel where the throttle leaver is. I replaced the throttle adjuster component the lever connects too which then plugs into a wire adaptor which leads to the computer. Haven't had a problem since.
