I hooked my 7 foot landplane to my JD 4105,, just for kicks,,,
The 4105 weighs 50% more than the 790,,,
If I tried to move more than a little gravel, the landplane became a "boat anchor" off of an oil tanker,,
If I had a 790, I would go with a 5 foot,,
I normally pull the 7 foot landplane with a 10,000 pound tractor,, even then, the landplane is quite a load, if much material is in it,,,
and, if you notice, my DIY landplane only has one blade in it,,,
I pull a 5 footer with a 2038R. Loaded with gravel, it’s all it can handle. Sometimes it’s too much. The land plane is almost 600 pounds empty. I’d go with the 5 footer.
I agree with the posts above. You probably can pull a 6' but not if it's filled with material. I don't have a land plane but a 5' box blade is plenty for a 790, in my experience.
