Do these actually work. Was looking for a decent siphon for my generator, tractor if need be, lawn equipment etc…. This looked simple and easy to store and keep. But is it practical and function well ? Anyone use one ?

They work but can be finicky and messy.

I agree - you really have the shake the shaker end fast - usually faster than I can do it.

I would suggest getting one of the cheap battery operated pumps. I bought the cheapest one I could find just as a trial without wasting a bunch if money. Should have bought one years ago…

Another option if there is room is just put a good length of hose in the tank, put a finger over the other side (like a straw) and pull enough out so the fluid in the hose is below the level of the fluid in the tank and remove your finger. Gravity will do the rest.

I had to drain the fuel from a jetski...when I was young we would just suck on a hose...but now that I'm older wasn't going to do that anymore. So I ordered something similar to what you show and it worked really well, was surprised. Used it to also drain the tank in an old car, did great.

These work great. You can stick a piece of 1/2" tygon on the hose to extend the reach.

Both Harbor Freight and Walmart have them for 10 bucks.

Be careful if the pump is above the container because it will continue to siphon when you turn it off.

For more money you can get one with a nozzle. If you are planning to pump from a higher source to something lower that might be a better choice for you.

I have one and use it frequently for water and such, not for fuels. It works well for me.

Cheaper versions (Chinese crap) have stiff hose which makes them very frustrating to use.
I bought a couple from harbor freight. Garbage.
Just like buying crap from Titan...cheap copies of someone else's work. I bought the original:

I’d get bout 10’ of poly hose and a 318 fuel pickup.

Submerge the hose, stick a thumb on the end, pull up and out to the catch container.

The battery siphons, drill pumps, 12v fuel pumps also work fine.

In my experience, extremely well. I have used one every day for the past 6 years to empty the remaining water in 2 horse troughs before I refill them with fresh water. The troughs are on stands, not on the ground, so once the siphone effect starts the flow is almost as good as with the battery pump I own but don't use any more. It sure beats going to the trough on a winter day only to find dead or weak batteries on your powered pump.

Each shake of the ball valve raises the water in the hose by about a half inch, until the water level in the hose finally reaches the rim of the trough and the siphon effect takes over. So using this for siphoning the last foot of water out of the bottom of a 55 gallon drum would mean shaking your tail off to get the water up to the top, a shallow container will have the siphon effect start pretty quickly.

I found mine in the well supply section of Lowes.
