I had the dealer install 3rd function specifically for the purpose of adding a grapple. I also had them add fourth and fifth remotes to the rear. When the tractor came back from the dealer, the third function button was correctly added on the joystick, but the valve had been added to the rear of the tractor. I called the dealer who informed me that I just need to run some long hoses to the front end loader to run the grapple. He said that on my particular tractor which is a 2018 4066R cab and which has the new H440 loader, JD doesn’t made a mid-mount 3rd function valve. This just doesn’t make sense to me. And I hate the idea of running long hoses all the way to the front to operate the grapple. I have found numerous aftermarket kits (non-JD) and I have seen somewhere in one forum on here, the hard lines (by JD) that install on the loader arms. Has anyone had this installed at the dealer and or should I be concerned about taking their advice and just running lines all the way to the front? Does anyone know the John Deere part number or kit number that I should be asking for? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and help!

LMorris4408,

Wow, you must be my long lost twin brother!

When I placed my order for a 4052R w/cab and loaded tires with my John Deere dealer, I told him I wanted it to be set up so I would have couplings on the loader frame to run a Grapple. I also ordered the JD Hydraulic Kit BW16414. Explained in this link:

Third-function hydraulic lines and hoses

This was my post on GTT for the very same question that you just posted.

Yet Another Hydraulic Question!!

You can see the final set up created by my dealer in this GTT link:

My John Deere 4052R Has Landed

Let me know if this was any help. Take care, brother.

Thank you SOOOO MUCH!

I may have the dealer reach out to you for any specifics. I’m guessing the “Tee” setup is what they will have to add, along with the hard lines along the loader arm.

I really, really appreciate your help and reply!

If you look where your loader lines plug in there should be 4 ports and 2 open holes. The 2 open holes are for the 3rd function. The kit comes with front and rear lines. So why would there be open holes if JD doesn't offer front lines, ask your dealer that LOL. The manual says you can only use front or rear, but Fred's awesome dealer did some custom work and gave him both.

I had my dealer ard 3rd function and they asked me front or rear, I replied front and mine have quick attach fitting at the first cross bar up from the bucket, operated by the switch
The fittings are circled in red for the 3rd function

Mine is a 4044R, so identical to your 4052R
