Advice Needed on 3039R Purchase

So, in March 2021, I was looking at a 3039R hydro with 320R loader. At that time, I was quoted: (this included then current JD deals)
3039R hydro with 320R loader > $28,100
3rd SCV dealer installed > $1,260
CID Rake Grapple > $1,740
TOTAL > $31,100
Before I could decide, this tractor was “Sold” by another dealer in their system.

So, last week I get a call from my sales guy saying they got another 3039R hydro in stock in their system. After talking back and forth, it turns out it’s the exact same tractor. As in, THE tractor. The person who was supposed to buy it backed out of the deal before it came in from the factory.
So now I’m being quoted (with current JD deals):
3039R hydro with 320R loader > $31,925
FACTORY INSTALLED 3rd SCV > Included
CID Rake Grapple > $1,740
TOTAL > $33,665
I learned my lesson and have reserved this tractor, and it is being brought to my local dealer. But I’m not liking the idea of paying a lot more for a tractor that he knows I would have bought in March.

I also would like to get a 5ft box blade and 5ft rotary cutter. But have not talked pricing or deals as of yet.
Ive also heard people say that I will need filled tires, possibly extra weights, etc. Some also mention working “extras” into the deal. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

I hope the dealer brings it back down for you. Thats sounds ridiculous to me
Dealers really have no need to work on price right now since there is almost no supply. I just bought a 3034R from a dealer in downtown Cincinnati of all places. I think my deal was fair at right around 18% off list if I recall correctly. I know nothing about tractors and never considered a tractor something I would ever own. After evaluating my needs and watching hours and hours of tractor porn, I knew the 3R would be the right model for me. I went all in! 3046R with 3rd/4th/5th function, top and tilt, electric diverter, HD bucket and brush guard and filled tires. No regrets!!! I am amazed at what I have been able to learn and accomplish with this thing!! I've also added bucket teeth and just ordered a canopy. I should be out at my new property working, but my job has me anchored to a computer right now. Can't wait to get back to my project. First day I worked on leveling the site for my barn. 7 hours of continuous operation! Then this past Sunday I took down my first tree! Sorry for the rambling - I'm just so excited by my new workhorse!! And grapple is on order too!!

Does that mean you've agreed to take the tractor, loader, third function, and grapple for $33,665? If so, you've committed to the deal. Now you want advice on how to change the deal after you've committed to it?

You won't have any problems running a 5ft rotary cutter. I have a 3039R cab tractor and an MX5 cutter. The only time I ran out of power is when the grass was waist high and thick as a lawn, I just slowed down to get through it. What tires does the tractor have? If R4 what size are the rears? I have the large rear R4s 43x16-20 and have 3 wheel weights per side & filled. I got the tractor with just the weights and it felt stable most everywhere I used it. When I got my Artillian grapple I was moving long trees/branches maybe 30ft or longer, I got a lot of swaying with the leverage of the trees hanging way way over the sides of the grapple. The added weight from filling the tires helps with inclines and cuts down on the swaying when carrying trees.

Does the deal include the third function kit for the loader to run a grapple?

Do you already have a ballast box? Instead of filling my ballast box with concrete I bought metal bar bell weights, some JD suit case weights & old tractor weights from places that sell used equipment. That way I can add to or remove # from the box as needed.

If he hasn't signed anything there's no commitment. He may not have any bargaining power but he can still walk away if he chooses.

I would offer him the original agreed upon price plus what ever increase has occurred during this time lapse.

Yes, the tractor comes with a factory installed 3rd function valve

No, I don’t have any sort of ballast right now

No, I haven’t signed anything or agreed to a price. And my sales guy also said no agreements yet. Reserving it just ensured no other dealer in their system will sell it.

Honestly I think you will pay the higher price or not get a tractor. There were a couple 3 series at my dealer in April. I haven’t seen one since the beginning of may.

I should have bought it when I saw it comes to mind.

The last one at a lower price sold, and it doesn’t sound like you put a deposit on it so, thus is life, the dealer has zero moral obligation to do anything on the price. They didn’t sell it out from under you. You weren’t fast enough.

When I sell things I advertise them, and have them curbside. I tell people I won’t hold anything if they, the customer isn’t on the way. I’m not going to pass up a chance to sell today for someone I hope shows up 2 days later even if they promise to buy it. Been there done that, and got burned by the no show.

This is the EXACT SAME tractor that I got quoted in March 2021. As in same VIN #. The other buyer never bought it. So, there is my point. It is the exact same machine that was quoted to me in March with a lower price. (I have the quote on paper.)

I'd try it. Just be ready to walk or pay the extra. Your choice.

It’s still a crap shoot, and if they put together an offer it should have an expiration date on it.

In March you had options, now inventory is turning fast and delivery dates are moving out for anything not in stock.

They also have been paying interest on it for 3 extra months, so their cost is also higher just because of time.

If all this happed last month I would have a little sympathy, but 3 months later I just don’t.

I generally don’t haggle over email, but twice I accepted offers if they come get it that day or the next one. They both wanted it to hold for 3-4 days. One didn’t buy it because he got mad, and I sold it before he would have got there for more, the other paid full price, as speed in the transaction makes smaller profit as good as a slower larger one.

Memorial Day weekend I sold out of pallet forks while a couple customers were dragging their feet. The prices I pat went up and so did mine, but there was one pallet in transit that I got at the lower price. One of those foot draggers bought from the next order at the higher price. I never heard from the other again.

Some of the incentives from JD to the dealer may have expired, that could be some of the reason for a different price.
And as mentioned above, they have had it 3 more months, and moved it twice. But I agree, that is a significant increase.

I would at least ask why the large increase and have them show you on paper, my salesman was "open book" on the deal when I bought mine. MSRP, less discount, less factory incentives... I bought mine about a year ago.

So they sent the machine back to the factory and had the factory install the 3rd SCV and ship it back? I'm confused...

I bought a 3039r late last year.

My neighbor is buying one now. I gave him my invoice because he wanted the same options. When I gave it to him he planned on negotiating a better price. He is more of a wheeler dealer than me.

He ended up paying more than I did for the same tractor with the same options. I don't know how much, but he told me that they would not negotiate and that the prices went up.

Inventory is down and demand is high, so I think that this is typical right now.

Like everything right now it is a sellers market due to Covid lockdowns all over the world and now with the new administration and it's policies and all the free money (which is not free at all) and the amount of unemployment money and the debt and the printing of money we have seen 4.5% and 5% inflation over the past two months. I have no doubt that it will continue to climb. The dealer is in the drivers seat. Sad to say but I do not think that you will get the deal that you had before. Just my $0.02
