I would like to add a backhoe to my 3520. I realize the 375/485 are the recommended versions, but was hoping to go used to save $$. I've located a well used 48 nearby but haven't had much luck from the local dealer determining if there is a sub frame mount to make it work. There's also a 47 nearby but I assume it would require the same sub frame. I prefer the 48 since they're comparably priced and it actually appears to be in better shape.

Has anyone here put the 47/48 backhoe on a 3x20 and can make recommendations on how to proceed?
If either is workable, is the 47 a better option over the 48 given the size of the tractor?
Are there any reasons to not go this route?

I'm also open to other options like a Woods, Bradco, etc providing there is a sub frame option.

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the 47, 48, 447 & 448 were available for the 3x20 series prior to the introduction of the 375 & 485 BH's. The JD Parts site shows the attaching parts for all compatible machines:

You might want to have a dealer check an older accessory & implement guide. If you do purchase a used backhoe make sure you get the compatible attaching parts, subframe and power beyond kit if possible.

thanks for the prompt response.

is there an actual subframe that can be installed or is it just the 4-pt bracket plates? based on other posts, a subframe sound like a really good idea to improve rigidity and reliability.

I think I found the information I was looking for at the parts catalog link.

BM19564 Mounting Parts 1 (A)

(A) MUST USE LVB24795 HD SUBFRAME KIT

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, to my limited knowledge any of them will fit the Open Station machines.

Here are a couple of links that should provide more info:

I'f you've got an open station 3X20 machine I'd go for the 48 or 448 BH. The extra 1' of reach is always helpful and more productive.

I called the dealer to inquire about buying the RSA (LVB25611) and subframe kit (LVB24795) and he insisted the part numbers I gave him were for a 4000 series only and would not work to mount the 48 on my 3520. He said the only options for my 3520 are the 448 or the 485. Even after I explained I'm reading that it's possible, he insisted there's no part that directly supports this and those who are doing it must be modifying the parts to make them work.

Is there something I'm missing or is it possible he's looking in the wrong area of his parts catalog? Are the earlier 4000 series basically the same frame size as the 3x20?

Sorry to be a bother, but I'd really like to figure this out.

Check out this link: John deere 448 backhoe - Yakaz For sale

So we know the 448 will fit the 3X20's and I'm pretty sure that the 448 was a slight revision of the 48. If you can confirm this then I think you're probably on the right track.
