Sold the old 14SB walkbehind last night with silver cover. Anyone know how old these things are? Real classic, made before JD walkbehinds went down the tubes when they started selling at Lowes. Our local JD tractor place only sells Hondas now. Have one of those.

Sold the 14SB to a navy guy moving up to Quantico. As usual, she started right up for me, 1st pull.

Oil always stayed crystal clear on that Kawasaki.

That's a good looking mower. I have two 21 push mowers. One is for parts which is going to give up its deck to the other one. I know these two date back prior to 1985. The older one is the first one with the blade disconnect if the operator releases the bail on the handle bar. The older one has a complicated setup that no longer works and hasn't for years. The newer one has a much simpler shutoff which works fine. I searched through the parts catalog and found that the two steel decks should be the same. The deck that needs to be replaced is rusted through on the left hand side to the point that it is no longer safe.

The parts catalog shows production years for different serial numbers. I believe that your has a cast aluminum deck, doesn't it?

Holy cow. We bought ours at an estate sale probably at least 12 years ago, think for $60. It looked as though it had hardly been used. Then started having troubles with it. Turned out to be an overhead valve that was either too loose or too tight. Got that fixed and no problems until the blade brake started slipping. Shimmed it and made it work a bit longer but eventually replaced it a couple years ago. Oil changed every year with synthetic, but oil was ALWAYS crystal clear. Bet it's 20 years old. I was afraid the gear box would lock up but found even those on ebay. Gone now.
