Thinking about purchasing an air ride JD seat for my 2016 x738. They want around $950 for the seat but are then telling me I need a $350 wiring harness as well? Obviously the compressor is 12 volt so there must be a way to wire it without getting a whole new wiring harness? Anyone done this or have ant ideas? Thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm wondering if the Puffer Seat Suspension will fit your X738?
It is a complete unit and sells for ~$450.

Installation.

BTW, Welcome to GTT.

I added a JD air ride seat to my x540 but my seat came with the harness which I spliced into. You will need to get 12 volts to the seat wiring but without the harness you would need the mating connection for the seat or connect into the seat wiring. The harness also has the safety cut off wiring as I recall.

The Puffer Seat Suspension looks like it would raise seat height a few inches which could make the steering wheel too close to the legs. The JD air ride seat has the air cushion at the back of the seat so height is less of a problem.

So it sounds like if I create plug from the new seat that will mate to the existing plug that would work? I did by pass the safety switch on my original seat. BTW how do you like the air ride seat? Thanks

Yes, the seat connector has male pins in a socket, which needs 12 volts and ground. I had also bypassed the safety cutoff due to the stock seat switch being overly sensitive.
The air ride seat improved the ride tremendously! Was riding a stock LX279 which was better for my back than the stock x540 but also slower mowing. Probably depends on how bumpy your yard is and how sensitive your back is for how much improvement you will see.
