I apologize for the unclear thread title. Here's what I'm referring to.

I'd like the option of pushing the tractor around. :)

I realize the 265 has that lever behind it, atop the transmission. And that you push down on the lever, and since the lever is attached to a fulcrum, the other end of the lever pushes against a button or whatever that essentially disengages the trans from the drive belt pulley.

I bought my 265 last year, but that lever "does nothing" of the sort. At the top of its travel it can tough the underside of the gas tank, but otherwise just rests on top of the transmission.

The lever just flops around, attached at its fulcrum but never contacting that button or whatever on the trans needed to disengage the drive pulley.

I will try to help. You seem to know how it works, lever pushes button down. Lever is secured to trans by 2 bolts looking at JD parts site, maybe bolts are loose? You probably need to pull the fender deck to inspect. Maybe dirt is restricting the lever from pushing down the button? I have a 285 and have never had a problem with the lever/button.

Or maybe the release that pushes in is frozen from lack of use, and some one got too aggressive with the lever and bent it to the point it can't push the release pin. You may have to do some cleaning and use a penetrating oil/solvent to free it. :dunno:

I will look again and probably pull the body off later. I don't know if the thing it's supposed too act upon is stuck, because like i said, it never contacts it.

There is a transaxle for sale on eBay. Search: BDU - 21L - 206
This will show pictures of the lever and may help you see how it works.
