Have been entertaining the idea of building one to compliment zero turns and garden tractors. I own several different brands of commercial mowers and other machines. The collectors that Exmark , Grasshopper, and some others sell don't fit my needs. And, even though the largest one that Grasshopper makes is made of metal and appears to hold a lot, it is still too small.

After I get through with some of the tractor restoration projects, I hope to be able to have a workable design figured out and begin working on it.

The mounted collectors are too time consuming to install and take off. Although a trailering type design will limit the use for wide open areas with lots of room to turn around, it will hold a lot more grass and leaves. And, I won't have to stop as often to unload.

Anyone have some design ideas they'd like to share?

There was a homemade one that somebody built out of thick plexiglass. That doesn't look to be durable enough. Sure,it's simple to see when the hopper is full, but over many hours of use that plexiglass is going to get very abraded.

a design like the Deere MC519 should work for a zero turn, it's a trailing type that swings with the machine, and it fits up closer to the machine than a standard trailer.

Thank you for that suggestion. I already tried using a John Deere cart for that purpose as well as a much larger freight buggy. Even with a homemade extension on the cart, it was too small. The large capacity of the freight buggy helped, but the caster wheels it came with needed to be swapped out for larger pneumatic versions.

One thing I probably should've mentioned is that I collect the grass clippings and leaves to use as compost for gardening. Also grind up and shred hay bales and other material to mix with the green grass, leaves, etc.

Can you give a little more information about the size of the machine you would be building it to go on? Going by the size of the tractor in your signature....well...

You know how some tractor people are.

Well, not bragging or anything, but was hoping to build something that could be used for various sized zero turns, both midpoint and front mount, and also garden tractors. The idea of a mounted design would not be something desirable. Guess it would have to be a trailer type.

The machines I wanted to use it with range from 20 and up to 30 horsepower.

Not sure yet if an extra engine will have to be used to power a blower fan.

Lots of things to consider.

Here is a clam shell 22 bushel bagger my father inlaw built.mounted on his 3pt. Hydraulic dump
That looks like a handy size bagger/catcher/collector to have. Must be very sturdy too.
