Just curious - my dealer is not moving off of MSRP. I called a couple of others and they indicated the same. Dealer claims that inventories are so low and lead time to order is 2-3 months depending on the model so they aren't discounting at all - he even told me, they used to discount 10-15%

Exactly the reason why I made several bigger purchases last year the week that the Covid panic started (truck, lawn tractor, etc). The uncertainty of what might happen and the businesses instinct to make a sale at all costs to hoard cash made for a pretty good 2-3 week window of buying. The window was a little longer than that, but that first 2-3 weeks was the best for sure.

It seems to be a sellers market right now - tractors, trucks, and trailers. I have not heard of anyone offering above MSRP just yet to get earlier delivery, but maybe they are just to embarrassed to admit it.
Due to covid, 2021 will bring shortages of raw and imported materials, inventories will be reduced and costs will increase dramatically. Generally speaking, every consumable item will have components that will have increased cost and more limited availability. If your dealer cannot offer a discount, don't be offended. His income stream has been reduced and he is in survival mode. If you need it, buy it, but really consider keeping it local and keep your local dealer in business. You will need him down the road. Keep the money local. The local economy needs the cash stimulus and we need to do our part. Not saying to be foolish but if the difference in price to you is small, be loyal to your local dealer.

I disagree. Every dealer I spoke with last summer when shopping was going gangbusters with sales. They couldn't get product fast enough. My dealer is still selling more than he can get in. Factory lead times are 12-16 weeks for the most part.

Now, if you were to say dealers aren't discounting because they don't have to, I'd not argue that point.

I had a trailer dealer laugh in my face the other day when I asked if there was any wiggle room on the price of one I was looking at. He said "if you don't want it, somebody else will." Things are that crazy out there...

A friend of mine just bought a 1025R FILB last week from the dealer I bought mine from in 2018. MSRP was $26,400. They had a spring sale and my friend walked out the door with the machine $20,500.

This will all change in time. We still have too many people with lots of free time and lots of free govt cash in their pocket, plus various supply chain problems creating artificial scarcity. Eventually all those people will go back to work, the free cash will dry up, and there will be a glut of product driving prices down. If you're patient, another year or two and people will be fired up about some of the great deals they're getting.

That may be but what's the excuse for all the dealers that did not discounting back when times were good? Loyalty works both ways.
Interesting topic here......there are likely some great deals out there to be had. Most dealers are reducing inventory and turning it back into cash. Then they re-order based on demand. A lot of dealers are not expecting an ongoing surge in the economy and a lot of manufacturers are screaming for raw materials or subcomponents as the pipeline is fractured thus creating a slower delivery. Interest rates are low, so borrowing may be adoption for customers with limited cash. A $10,000 purchase over 120 months is $83/month. A $10,000 purchase with a 20% discount equals $ 8,000 ( nice discount if you can get it) but the same purchase over 120 months is $66/month......difference is $17/month. Any discount less than 20% minimizes the difference. Making payments over 120 months may offset a likely price increase that is coming around the corner. Just another way to look at it.

Doesn't that just mean they are setting a fair price?

Or would you prefer they price it like GM does their trucks and sell a X700 for $20K with a BS John Deere Employee Discount for all sale bringing it down to $12K.

I helped put a deal together for a good buddy if mine a couple weeks ago on 2025R and a few attachments
We got about 4K off MSRP. That’s basically almost 15% off.

I was by my JD dealer the other day picking up a oil change kit for my mower and walk out to the lot to look see what they had. I salesman came out and I ask if they were have trouble getting tractors and said been hard to get certain 3 and 4 series tractors. I bought my 3043D tractor there last year in early April with the front end loader for $22,000. He said he found 3043D for a guy the other day and was going to be $28,000. He said he cannot get any 4044's right now.

I got about 4K off my 1025 TLB last year. If you look at stocks, even with the "shortages" deere doesn't seem to be suffering for it.

I'd be interested in the year over year sales numbers.
I work in an unrelated industry and as of March 1st, we are being hit with never ending price increases and slow delivery due to shortages of raw goods. And now new freight sur-charges. I am being told this will keep escalating until Fall and may not stop then. I have to pass on the new increases and it is endless. Suppliers that had plush inventories and stockpiles of raw goods will be Ok for awhile but eventually they will run out. You can already see it at street level at the pump. We all know what happens when fuel increases in cost. Waiting may be a wise move. If inventories are restocked you may catch a break and get a better deal.......but if raw goods keep climbing, you could be looking at a higher cost machine.

Luckily I am not in a rush, I think I will wait things out a bit and see if prices come down
My dealer that has the leftover x738 had it listed at $12,300 with a $250 discount for $12,050. When I went in about a month ago to check on my tractor order I saw the x738 was back up to $12,300 with no discount listed. He also has an x739 they got in but would not share the price with me at the time.

Seemed strange since that x738 (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) was on the floor at that price last year in July when I bought my x738 used.

I contacted the closest 5 dealers in a 100 miles radius, and emailed them a listing of what I wanted with the attachments and asked for their best price out the door. Saved alot. Did the same for my neighbor last year on his x590. Saved him a good amount too. Yes, market conditions and supply will affect deals for sure, but do yourself a favor and get out there and shop.
