Anyone getting less than MSRP from dealer?

Just curious - my dealer is not moving off of MSRP. I called a couple of others and they indicated the same. Dealer claims that inventories are so low and lead time to order is 2-3 months depending on the model so they aren't discounting at all - he even told me, they used to discount 10-15%

I just ordered a X590 "lawn tractor". I asked for the straight out price and there was no discount. Salesperson told me tractors are in limited supply. Also, being spring....discounts are less than fall and end of year. Deere is only offering 0% interest on most models.

I believe if you shop around you can find dealers that will still discount. Maybe not the 15%-18% most were seeing last year, but something more than nothing.

My point was Deere seems to be only offering 0% interest and no rebates or discounts on most tractors

But Deere is offering 12 months no interest on X500 series.

Earlier this year (February?) JD was offering $700 off on the x7 line, probably $500 on the x5 (IIRC). Seems odd they would have those promotions running 2 months ago but now say tractors are scarce. Must have moved a lot of product in the last 60 days....

I just bought a used 2020 X739 w/60" mower deck and auto connect. It has 3 hours on it. Guy bought it new and brought it back didn't like the 60" deck because of the trees being close together on his land. Rather than exchange the deck to the 54" the dealer just gave him an X739 off the lot with a 54" deck. It should arrive in the next few days. I hate paying asking price so made a good run at negotiating the price down but no luck (dealer had it listed at a good price though). I asked the local dealer (SW Arkansas) to price me an X739 and he said they don't make those anymore :) so I bought from an affiliated dealer 300 miles away.

I guess the deals depend on your location and the dealer's purchasing power. I just signed the purchase order for a 2021 1025R with James River Equipment. My deal came out to a 12.85% discount from MSRP and that does not include the $500 current discount if I go with JD financing.

Great deal - seems to be a rarity lately though

I just purchased a 1025R factory built TLB about a month ago and got it for 18% below MSRP with a ballast box thrown in. They had a lot of equipment on the lot including probably 10 1025R tractors in various configurations. The showroom was empty of people both times I went. This in Olympia Wa.

I contacted the closest 5 dealers in a 100 miles radius, and emailed them a listing of what I wanted with the attachments and asked for their best price out the door. Saved alot. Did the same for my neighbor last year on his x590. Saved him a good amount too. Yes, market conditions and supply will affect deals for sure, but do yourself a favor and get out there and shop.
Unfortunately every dealer in the region seems to have been bought out by the same company. No matter where you go to get an estimate they send you back to the first person who quoted you because that’s what’s in their system.

I don't know where your dealer is but I just made a deal with my dealer and average was about 18% off more from the jd website. Got a new 2032r with 60d auto connect and a 220r loader. So I guess it just depends on the dealer and the salesman on how big a commission he wants to make.

I'm not sure why people have such a hard time shopping? I shop and negotiate for every big ticket item I purchase.

In the Chicago metro area, we also have one group that pretty much locked up the area with 4 dealers surrounding the collar counties. I have nothing against them, but they are strictly MSRP on everything unless JD themselves has a promotion going on. That is their business model, which is fine. So, I gave that owner group an RFP to the nearest store which is 5 miles away. Then I started adding places outside of the Chicago metro, with different owners. Turns out that the best deal I got was from a place in a different state, well within 100 miles, with lower sales tax too.

Obviously, if you go to another of the dealers in the SAME ownership group, you will be in the SAME system, and will very likely get the SAME price. Unless one of them have a one-off or low hour return they are trying to get rid of. Kind of like the local Auto Parts stores. The AutoZone in your town obviously has the same exact prices at the AutoZone in the next town over.

To get fair quotes, you must ensure you only include stores with unique owners. So, instead of going to 4 Autozones in the XXX mile radius, how about doing one AutoZone, one Advance Auto, one Napa, and one O'Reilly's.

In some regions of course, you might have to go out further than 100 miles to find a JD dealer with a different owner, and at some point you may not want to go that far, and decide just to pay the price. That's your call, but getting multiple quotes from a few stores within the same ownership group makes no sense and will get you nowhere.

I suggest you list your zip code and perhaps a few friendly folks here might be willing to help identify potential candidates in your area.

There is nothing wrong with shopping around looking for the best investment cost, and if you find one you like but it is out of your comfort zone as far as support and distance, go ahead and give the local guys a opportunity to match. They understand and they likely do the same thing when they make a large purchase. I'm sure they would appreciate a opportunity to reconsider their offer. And if they can't wiggle, they will tell you to go ahead and make the deal elsewhere but reconsider them down the road on your next purchase. No need to hold a grudge or get angry. Business is business and personal budgets and financial situations warrant different outcomes. If the difference is minor and your local guy is more convenient, pay the difference and support local. Even if it's a big JD group with a local center, the local guys benefit and help keep the local economy healthier. Most of the time due to competition consumers catch a break. But not all the time. Not every time. If you need to wait for a better deal, do so. The guy you'r talking to is just like you.....he is trying to make a living. If you can help him....he will find a way to help you.

Supply/discounts seem to depend on size class of the machine.

Exactly the reason why I made several bigger purchases last year the week that the Covid panic started (truck, lawn tractor, etc). The uncertainty of what might happen and the businesses instinct to make a sale at all costs to hoard cash made for a pretty good 2-3 week window of buying. The window was a little longer than that, but that first 2-3 weeks was the best for sure.
Totally agree. I found my best deal on a 1-series when the panic set in from Covid. Got a 1026R 459 hours w/ 60" mower & 54" Hydraulic blade for $7,800. Within a month the local dealer wasn't moving anything so I got a new 120R loader $3,000 out the door.

If you can avoid it, I personally believe this is not the time to be making big purchases, but to wait for things to swing back to normal.....just building the cash reserves. I know not everyone can wait on certain items pending their personal circumstances. My biggest regret was not pulling the trigger and building a new pole barn last spring/summer. Now I just have to be patient as supply & demand will come back in line.

I just signed papers on a 2038R with 15% off MSRP (the salesman found one at one of their stores somewhere in Texas).

He quote me a 2032R with 18% discount. He had 1 available in the store. He pushed me to buy it and made a great deal on it, but I want a 38R.
