Anyone know anything about old turning plows?

This is local for $150. Messages the guy. Hoping it’s available. What do I need to look for here? Looks complete to me. But I know nothing about them really

You want to make sure those share points are good. You can't plow with it otherwise. Two good points: It has coulters and a landside wheel in the rear. Check the coulters to see if the bearings are in good condition. It looks complete. That is the older Ford/Dearborn plow used on the 8N's. I have the newer version in 2 bottom and 3 bottom. So that plow is probably from the 40's. Mine are from the 50's. What kind of price are they asking?

Below is a pic of the later model.

You can replace the shares if needed right? $150 and it’s local...within 10 minutes. Already has someone scheduled to look at it. So I may not end up with it. Price seems right as 2 bottoms are becoming ridiculous in price.

I paid $250 for my 2 bottom some time back.

The fact that the lift pins are not replaceable kinda hints at the age.

If you can buy that plow for that price, it's a steal ... I recently sold one just like it for $350.00
Here are my two links on plows. It's a good price!
4044M with old Dearborn Two Bottom Plow
Ferguson plow repair help needed.
Thats a good looking plow at a great price. The sod cutters and the tail wheel are a huge asset. It just needs a few runs through the dirt to clean up the shares and the moldboards.

Buy and have fun with it. Then go through the trial and error of learning to plow dirt correctly. I swear it is an art in itself to get the sod to properly roll over to the next furrow and not run it too deep.

Yeah, that's a deal if it's still available. Good luck.
The rule of thumb on plow depth is 1/2 of the plow width. The common plow width is 14 inches, so you plow 7 inches deep. The toughest adjustment is getting it to dig down, but only to the 7 inch deep level. When on level ground, set the top link to allow for slight dig, then, when it hits the 7 inch point, the plow will be level. I read somewhere about someone putting weights on his plow to get it to dig down. Obviously, he did not know how to set up a plow. An improperly set up plow will pull hard.

I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos of guys going through the whole plow setup process. I have a plow just like that one. I haven’t used it for awhile. It definitely takes some fine tuning to get the results you want. That seems to be a good price for it.

I sold a single bottom plow for $350 and the guy drove 10 hours to get it. As long as he was happy, I am happy..............

$300 - $350 are what they go for here. 1,2 or 3 bottom really doesn’t matter because people are looking for a 1 bottom for compacts or 2/3 for antique tractors. I have a nice complete IH 4-18 semi mount I paid $500 for a few years ago. None of them are worth much anymore except when your buying them, then they seem expensive....until you price a new one.
