Powerful stuff. I'm thinking about using it on my box blade to remove the LandPride orange, prime, and repaint JD green.
After paint removal, does the metal need to be etched :unknown: I plan on using Rustoleum Implement spray paint. But what primer, same brand OK?

I appreciate any info on the process

It certainly is powerful stuff, but why go to all that trouble?
Why not just scuff the old paint, and repaint in JD Green?

I considered that as well. Main reason for stripping is less tear on my right rotator. I suppose I could use my palm sander, I never thought of that until now.

Hiya,

I recently had to recoat one of the belt shields on a Frontier finish mower. I initially tried the "sand the area and hit it with a rattle can". That was a complete waste of time as the solvent in the Deere paint pulled the original coating off with the masking tape.

The steel was smooth drawn steel, so smooth that I used a new single edge razor blade to remove the coating from the entire cover. I ended up scuffing it with a Scotchbrite pad, etching it with metal prep, priming it with zinc based primer and then topcoating with Deere paint.

I suggest you go the full strip, etch, prime and paint route. A lot of implements are powder coated and in my experience, paint and powdercoat don't mix well.

I dismantled the BB scraper today. It's not been powder coated. In fact, it was not primed either, unless the primer is included in the paint. No idea. I used coarse stainless scour balls to scuff the surface, after removing the decals and left behind adhesives. This method, along with a wire brush seems to be doing the trick. I took both cutting blades off as well. All the hardware is in a bath a Kroil.
LandPride I thought was a US produced product, and it could be. The cutting blades, however, made in China. I still have more to do on it yet before it's ready for spraying.

I wanted a boom pole, so this gives me more of a reason to get one now. I can suspend the pieces from it for painting, then wheel it all inside the shop. More later.

The past few days I've been working on getting this thing disassembled, stripped of stickers and adhesive, cleaned and scuffed. Quite the chore. I tried 3M Scotchbrite at first, too much work. Based on how much effort was needed to scuff the surface, out come the Stainless Brillo Pads. Much easier and way more effective. The four arms got their first coat of green today. The BB itself, was also put in primer.

I have to be careful. Supervisors are hanging around again! :laugh:

Well hell. The weather changed over night. The ole box blade may be hanging there for a while to dry.
I'm continuing on. If my efforts go to sheIT, I'll be dropping it off at the powder coater.
First light coat of green applied.

Yes we use the cleanstrip aircraft paint remover. it takes the paint off. we used it that way we would not have paint under the new coat as we are restoring the 420.

I've used it many times. On a box blade scraper? No way.
Expensive stuff, but it works great for restorations.
Tomorrow is Friday. Maybe TSC will get the boom pole in. Then I can use it to carry the BB back inside the shop!! :unknown:

All done.
The blades were not installed here, but they are now.
I soaked all the bolts in Kroil (great stuff) for a few days, then wire wheeled them. They sure cleaned up nice, given how rusty they were. Almost like new again :thumbup1gif:
