I know better than to do any heavy lifting or to carry loads around without ballast, but when using a stump bucket to penetrate the ground in front of the tractor, won’t the rear ballast work against me?
Or is the tractor heavy enough that it won’t matter (2038R)?

hmmmm..It will give you more traction.......Stump bucket things have lots of leverage on FEL.

Take your time...its not an excavator........Thats all I got for input.

I would say that you want max ballast for using the stump bucket for roots and stumps because you'll be maxing out your loader's lift capacity.

Ballast isn't just for when the bucket is elevated. You can easily hook the bucket on a rock, root, etc, and cause the rear end to lift or even lean the machine to one side. I would think a stump bucket would make that even worse so ballast is a must to keep the rear planted.
