Having a pole barn put in soon and I have to level area 25 x 25 and get it ready for concrete. I have to take out about 8 to 12 inches of soil. Should I just use the fel or should I use box blade

Use the box blade with rippers to loosen the soil. Use FEL to remover the loose soil.

I have found that the box blade works great for what you want to do. I have found that I can control the box blade much better than the FEL for doing the type of project you are looking to do. Pull the dirt to one end then use the FEL to remove the dirt to where ever. With the FEL I have a hard time to keep it level it will float over the top or dig in but that may just be me.

Both

I would use the box blade with rippers to start and then finish with the FEL. It's a little tricky to get a perfect grade with the FEL but it can be done. It really helps to have someone spotting the high spots for you. Otherwise you are on and off the tractor a lot as you get close to the grade.

The box blade is nice (without rippers) when you just want to take a half inch or so off a small area or move a little dirt from a high spot to a low spot.

It should be your choice based on what you want to do and how comfortable you are with each tool. I might do it differently from you but that doesn't matter as long as you get it done the way you want to. Either one requires a bit of a "run in area"

Just my .02, I would use my box blade with rippers first, but if I had a tiller I might use that as well to make stuff easier to move. Again, just my .02. Please keep informed of progress and how things worked out for you. :greentractorride:

Are you doing the concrete before the pole barn is built?
