anyone know where my battery is located on my x728?
Hopefully someone with a X700 can give you the exact location. I suspect it is behind the grill. The manual does not give the location and looking around on-line I see varying answers with no definitive pictures. So once you locate yours please post a photo as it will likely be the only one on the entire Internet. Who would have thunk it.

Removing and Installing the Battery

Removing:

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY Section.)
2. Remove hood.
3. Remove battery cover.

MX13545
4. Disconnect negative (–) battery cable (A).
5. Push red cover (B) away from positive (+) battery cable and remove cable from battery.
6. Remove battery.
Installing:

1. Place battery on battery tray.
2. Connect positive (+) cable to battery positive (+) terminal first, then negative (-) cable to battery negative (-) terminal.
3. Apply spray lubricant to terminals to prevent corrosion.
4. Slide red cover over positive battery cable.
5. Install battery cover.

FYI open hood
disconnect the headlight connector. Left side setting on tractor.

put one hand at lower part of hood ,the other at the top opening and LIFT up'\

hood should slide out of the slots .

to get to battery I found it easier to take the 2 screws or tab loose on a 2-3"x 8-10" piece of metal (plastic)

Then access to battery is pretty easy.

So the battery is in the front behind the grill?

I did look up front ( so I thought - ?) when I first picked it up while doing my tuneup -
I have also removed the vent screens under and around the dash area - not seeing it.

I will look for that piece of metal you say in hope to find the battery....

wish me luck - Ill keep you posted -

First year, end of summer, my "new to me used" x485 the battery was failing and I had to jump it everytime I mowed. At first I tried to get to the battery and could not, so I ended up jumping at the starter motor connection. I bought a new battery and had to pull the hood to change it. :flag_of_truce:

After experiencing the same confusion as most of you I finally found the battery compartment in my X724!

And as suggested, I took some photos along the way as there are literally NO PHOTOS on the internet of where the battery is located.

My model is a John Deere X724 Ultimate
It’s a little dirty but here are the photos.

As noted you access it by:
1. Open the good all the way
2. The hood can roll forward if you lift up a little when it’s all the way up. Roll it forward and up and you will be able to slid it off the track it sits on (see pic).
3. Once the hood is OFF, you will see the battery compartment (really just a cover on the battery) that has a rubber strap holding it in place. It’s all the way forward in front of everything, just behind the grill.

Here is the battery, behind the grill in the hood (hood closed)

Here is the roller track that hold the hood on:

This is the battery shown with the hood OFF. The first pic is with cover in, then the next is cover off - showing the battery itself.
