Took delivery of the 1026R 10 days ago and this past weekend went to try to hook up my JD 10P cart to the hitch plate under the PTO. No go as the top of the cart hits the bottom of the iMatch with it fully raised. When I lower the iMatch to a low or mid position the cart can't reach the hitch either. Either way, the tongue on the little cart is just not long enough.

I also have a RYAN TOW-BEHIND LAWNAIRE AERATOR http://www.ryanturf.com/products/lawn_aerators/lawnaire_towbehind/ which has a very long tongue which I can't see being a problem, but I didn't try it since it was buried in the other end of the garage. Both the 10P cart and the Aerator have a clevis pin style hitch.

In the future I'd like to option to be able to pull things like a log splitter or chipper that use a ball hitch. What is your suggestion for what I should get that is iMatch compatible and will fit my current and future needs. I've seen the ads for the heavy hitch and the jd receiver hitch and clevis/ball plug in in the attachment catalog. I'm not a welder so that's not an option for me right now (I wish).

Thanks Kenny, good info, esp that second link.

Seems like my choices are: JD'd receiver plus the combo clevis/ball hitch (which seems ideal for me), the Handihitch, the HeavyHitch or the receiver hitch I've seen at TSC's web site. Given that I already have the JD ballast box for use with my FEL, not sure if I need the added weight option that the HeavyHitch offers. but I'm all ears. I don't want to save $100 and then kick myself later.

Ok, I think I have a plan. I'm going to get the Heavy Hitch (Cat 1). Now I need to get a hitch that I can use to attach the 10 P to. I like the looks of the John Deere Clevis & Ball Hitch as it will allow me to pull the 10P cart and a rental log splitter around the yard/woods. I can put some suitcase weights on the HH and should have plenty of down force on the 3 pt hitch. I can't seem to find a part or model number for the JD Clevis & Ball Hitch. Its on p 25 of the Implement catalog under the JD Receiver hitch. Any idea what the price and available of it is?

NTTTG,

The only thing I could come up with in JDParts are the balls. Here is what I found, not sure the size you are needing.
Thanks Randy. I looked on JDP also and didn't see the hitch either. There's no part number in the book for the hitch. Seems like exactly what I need.

I pull small implements with my 3 point too. But one thing to remember is dont bump the 3 point lever by accident. Quick way to bend a tongue. I wish there was a lock-out on it.

Gus . . . that's really neat. I envy you guys who have the ability to visualize a solution and carry it through to completion. Must be nice to have the metal fab and welding equipment to get the job done. Congrats!

Aaron, either of those would do the job for me . . . but all I really need to do is pull a spreader, an aerator and a dethatcher. A simple clevis type hitch will work. No need for a ball since I have one already for my utility trailer.

Sure are lots of ways to skin the same cat!

Thanks for the replies so far guys, but I'm surprised its so hard to find this part from JD. I've searched their website and the web with little luck. I'm going to call the dealer and start asking around. That combo clevis & ball hitch, plus the Heavy Hitch sure looks like a great combo for me.

Thanks Joe and Sawdust. Joe that page is where I saw the clevis & ball hitch, but there isn't a part number. I already have the iMatch and those part numbers are just for that.

Sawdust, did you get a part number for the actual clevis & ball hitch that is $90 CDN?

You know i did not get one. Soon as he told me the price I said :bye:. He did have to search by word on his suppliers site and could not find it in the deere computer.

I took old cross draw bar and made this

I like the fix Gus has come up with, simple and easy to deal with. If I were doing any thing different I would make the plate that the ball is connected to protrude on the opposite side with a 5/8" hole. This would allow you to hang it on the hitch turned around to pull things such as the 10P trailer with a pin hitch. FWIW, the 10P cart could pin to a standard horizontal drawbar without the top section and stabilizing action, this top section is only needed with a ball hitch. I currently use a plain horizontal drawbar to pull my small cart with IMatch behind the x749.

Well at minimum make sure the hole you use is large in size.

As I said previously, you have to be careful if you accidently raise or lower the 3 point because you can do permanent damage. My buddy just ruined the tongue on his John Deere cart by driving through a dip. There was not enough slop in the hole and the tractor was coming up the other side of dip as the cart was just coming down. This put it in a bind and the tractor won and the tongue lost.

My little hinged tongue I put on the backside of my ball hitch works great and protects you. I just reverse the hitch in the receiver for pull behind implements. The tongue part has a 1/2 pin and rotates up and down.

I was using my 1025r pulling an Ari Fab broadcast spreader. The 3 point arms would hit the spreader when making turns. It didn't matter if the arms were up or down. The 3pt arms are easy to remove and it solved the problem. When I need to spread seed or fertilizer I take 5 minutes and remove the 3 pt arms.
Problem solved.
