It seems the last couple of years that retailers in Canada have gotten all over the famous American retail event called Black Friday. to me Black Friday is a "sacred" American tradition the day after Thanksgiving (well not really sacred but you know what I mean...). It used to be fun if we were travelling in the USA on Black Friday to partake in the craziness. Now our stores all have a Black Friday sale..... hey our Thanksgiving was last month. That is like American retailers having Boxing Day sales.

Nothing is sacred anymore... :flag_of_truce:

You can have all the Black Friday sales. I have zero need for the crowds, craziness, or medical bills from ensuing madness.

Shopping almost done. Haven't set foot in a store yet. Can't stand the crowds, the waiting, you name it

All physical shopping completed before Halloween. Only a couple of loose ends to finish now! :good2:

But, I truly see your point Carvel Loafer. Just more of the commercialization that is coming you way.

Don't give the American retailers ANY ideas.......:nunu:

Out of respect for family time, several years ago I refused to shop at any retailer who is open on Thanksgiving day.

At the time, it was a "stand" that involved avoiding a few retailers. Now that leaves me with no where to shop...:banghead:

So here's the upside of them starting the Black Friday stuff early - you can AVOID Black Friday entirely!

I use it to buy big ticket items at good prices.

Just ordered a nice 24 firearm gun safe for $399 (regular price $699) on a Pre-Black Friday (order now and get BF pricing) that I'll pick up sometime next week.

Got my crossbow for $300 a few years back (reg $450) and a 32" widescreen TV for the basement for $99 (reg $250) You can get great deals on ammo as well.

I do try my best to avoid Black Friday itself though. If I do it, I get it, grab exactly what I need and get out.

The videos which will certainly surface on the 24hr news which show the "shoppers" fist fighting over the last (fill in the blank) while having slept outside the store in a tent for 30 days prior to trampling the poor worker to death who opened the door to "commence the festivities" in order to save $, leaves me wondering just how bleak is the humans future?

It is akin to destroying your own neighborhood and burning down the local businesses, with a feigned outrage over a incorrectly perceived injustice, despite all of the evidence which dispels the myths, all for the real purpose of cloaking felony criminal behavior in falsely perceived inequities and injustices........:fire::bash:

Happy Holidays!

If you finish ALL of your Christmas shopping before Halloween, you won't be needing to shop the Black Friday sales. Deals are better after New Year's, and it is the best time to shop and put things back. Cheaper overall, and no long lines and BS commercialism!

So many stores are opening on thanksgiving now that Black Friday is losing its luster, which it never had for me cuz I avoid it.
Thanksgiving is losing its meaning if you ask me. Where I'm at stores are calling it Black Thursday now instead of Thanksgiving. Was shocked to see in the Menards ad that they are closed Thanksgiving day and don't open until 6am Friday.

Good for Menards. They are a family owned business and it is nice to see them respecting the value of having families get together and spend time together.

I just shopped in Menards Saturday and they have a real nice store.

Families spending time together has such a positive impact on so many segments of society. Shopping can wait.......

Fleet Farm and Farm and Fleet don't open until 6am Friday either. I can spend way to much time and money in either.

I agree with you SulleyBear, and others. Thanksgiving should be and used to be a time for friends and family to get together and count their blessings. Retailers should honor that and not be open.

I also refuse to shop on "Black Friday". I hate crowds to begin with, so why would I want to subject myself to that mayhem!

I just laugh at the Canadian retailers. We all know they all look for anything to make a so called sale on, and jumping on the Black Friday thing, which is so far from anything Canadian, is a sign of desperation. Now they don't know what to do with Thursday since it isn't our Thanksgiving, so some are calling it Red Thursday..... Really??? How about Blue Monday, Green Saturday, Yellow Tuesday? If it wasn't for the fact there are some insanely low prices on a few tools, I would ignore it. But you see, it works, we are talking and buying. :unknown:

Didn't know there were Fleet Farm stores. Are they a regional chain and if so, which part of the great ole U.S.?

We have Family Farm and Home and Farm and Fleet. There is also a store in Niles, Mi which is part of a chain out of central Illinois, but I can't recall it's name. The Family Farm and Home stores are based out of the Muskegon, Mi area if memory correctly serves me.

Sometimes, it is difficult to get my memory to serve me at all, let alone doing so accurately.

A flyer came via good old fashioned USPS for an area Gun Store and Shooting Range and they are offering some very good deals. The nice part is that the sale prices are now through December 31st so you don't have to fight the crowds on a certain day to get the savings.

For example,

9mm FMJ 50 round boxes for $10.99, no limit.:snipersmilie:

Federal 5.56 55gr 20 round box for $5.99, again no limit.

All S&W Shields 9mm and .40 S&W at $349.99.

S&W Sport .223 with a 16" barrel and 6 position stock for $499

Looks like I will be expanding the collection yet again......:snipersmilie::usa

This is the Off Topic forum, right?

Sorry, I will now step down off of my .:soapbox:

I think Black Friday is horrible and now they even bring the sales into Thanksgiving day..... And to make things worse alot of companies have even threatened their employees jobs if they do not show up for work. Wal Mart is notorious for that especially since most of their employees are Min Wage Paid "6 month temps" then they are let go and most of the time called back after 30 days to come back to work so that wal mart can avoid paying benefits and get more tax breaks. It's really horrible. That's exactly why i do not ever shop at wal mart unless my life depends on it!!!! Besides they are NOT the cheapest place to shop. Ever notice how most wal mart customers are broke!!!????

Anyone, thats my rants and I am sorry that other countries are taking on this "event". It's not one of the things I am proud of as an American....

I'm in Wisconsin. It's Mills Fleet Farm and Blaines Farm and Fleet. You can buy anything from clothes to tractor implements at either one. There are a few Farm and Fleet stores in Iowa (Mason City and Muscatine I believe). I have three Farm and Fleets, three Fleet Farms and a Tractor Supply all within 45 minutes of my house.
