Blowing Snow with Deere 2305

View attachment 5762 Just getting around to posting some pictures of my 2006 Deere 2305 blowing snow! Over the course of Jan 2-3 we got a good dumping of about 8" of snow. It was the first Real dumping of snow that we recived this winter and I was anxious to get out the 2305 and blow some snow with it! Quite a difference this winter has been vs last year at this time when it nearly snowed every day since the begining of Dec 2010. Last year was a record snow fall for our area in a long time which ultimately lead me to buy my 2305 last winter! Well after suffering through last year blowing snow without a cab, this winter I bought a Curtis Soft Side cab off ebay and installed it on my 2305 just a few days before these pictures were taken! Enjoy

It looks great!

Do you experience any traction problems while going backward all the time? I have wondered how these directional tires do when mostly backing up.

Looking good, I have the same setup, minus the cab, and I keep my FEL on. Got a link for the Curtis, by chance, or the name of the ebayer selling them? I'm going to be in the market for a cab...

Aaron, surpringly I have had very little traction problems blowing snow in reverse, I normally use the 4X4 for extra traction in blowing snow and it works great! Sometimes it will slip a bit on ice under the snow & I just lift the blower up a bit and it walks right through the snow. Last year we had a Ton of snow and that 2305 with rear mount blower walked right through the snow without any problems. I am not running tire chains on the rear tires as I have found the R4's to have enough traction, however if I do put a blade on the front in a year or two, I may put chains on the rear but we will see. It works great so far.

Now we're talking.

Great action shots. Not many of us are getting to use our snow toys this year. Looks like you had to go back a few years for these shots. Thanks for the post.

Hi

Weingartz Equipment company was selling the Curtis Cabs on ebay, they have stores through out Michigan! http:www.weingartz.com. I dealt with the Utica MI store and they were very helpfull indeed. They have had both a Curtis Soft Side & a Hardside cab on ebay recently. Mine was orginally for a 2210, but they were exactly the same for the 2305 so I went ahead and bought it. Got a decent deal on the soft side cab as well, a lot better then the $2750 Canadian that the local John Deere Dealer quoted me for a new one through them. Orginally the local dealer was wanting $3600 CAN for the dealer but "discounted it down for $2750 to move it. I told them I would think about it, but glad I passed on that cab and got the one off ebay.

Not sure if Weingartz's have any cabs left or not, but I would give them a call or email them to see if they have any cabs left. Also if you watch Kjjiji from time to time, a 2305 with cab will pop up, some guys will be willing to seperate the cab from the tractor.

Randy, surpringly these pictures were taken on the 3rd of Jan 2012. Half of the snow we got last Monday has since melted and the grass is showing through again! Really an odd winter for sure. Figured I would get some pictures from the 3rd, in case we don't get any more significant snow falls.

Thanks for the insight, but I'm quite a ways from the border, so I'd have to go with a Cdn. dealer. I'm also looking at the Original Tractor one, and I haven't totally discounted fabbing up one...

The Original Tractor Cab company makes a good cab as well. Have you checked with your local Deere dealer to see if they can order you a cab? Some Deere dealers still have Curtis Cabs avalible in stock, depending on location though. My local Dealer had One left back in the fall, and is likely sold now but well worth the look.

Very cool rig.

Whats the reason for using a 3 point snowblower? I have often wondered but never asked. I honestly dont think I could twist around and do that. Looks like a really stout setup :)
Not yet, but on the list of things to do. Original does have two dealers listed locally, don't know if I dare say it, but they are Kubota

In my case, simple. Rear one was $2600 taxes in. Front one would have been $5100 taxes in. I can put up with quite a bit of neck pain for that! Actually I don't find the neck pain to be bad, but snow blowing back in my face can be a PITA!

Very cool rig.

Gotcha !

I have 3 vertebra fused so that probably makes it harder to twist around. It looks like a lot of the 3 points are built heavier than the OEM Deere (or any other manufacturer) so I can see where they could have their place. I have a nice paved drive but if I had a gravel lane I am not so sure how the 54" I bought would hold up to all the rocks. I do my parents drive up the street and they have about 4' of gravel at the end of their drive. I cringe when I hear the rocks flying !

I Would love a Front Mount Blower for my 2305 Deere, However right now, I can't afford the $4K Canadian for the 2 Stage Blower, the quick hitch and drive shaft. Maybe someday I will get the Front mount blower.
I bought the 2305 with the Buhler 3 point Snow Blower as a package deal over the winter of 2010/11, and the guy selling the tractor wanted to sell them together. That and I did not have enough time during the winter of 2010/2011 to mess around with putting a blower on the front.

The 3 point Blower works great, I sometimes use the blower to "Back Drag" the snow away from Garage doors, before blowing snow.

I managed to dislodge a big (about 4 inch) rock the other nite. My own stupidity, as I was off the edge of the road a bit. Shoulda saw the sparks fly, luckily the rock got thrown bavk, not in. Gouged metal up a bit. Won't be pulling that trick again.

Gotcha !

I have had pretty good success blowing right up to the garage door. The chute rotates a little past 180 degrees and I just ease up slow and then let it sit there for a minute to clean as much as possible. So far so good. Not enough I have needed to get a shovel yet.

Don't know if this photo will show up but I just purchased a Curtis hard cab from Weingartz Supply off eBay for $2350. Great deal and they shipped it immediately. Took about four hours to install. Nice & roomy and it certainly keeps the weather off me. Got to use it three times over the last couple of days.
Regards!

That's a great deal Frank, did it come with any other options?
No other options. Just hard sides and electric wiper. I will install some front mounted overhead LED lighting and possibly the tuck away heater.

Nice setup! AFter 3 years in a row of heavy snow I had resolved to finally bite the bullet on a snowblower for my '04 2210..... alas, no snow this year. BUT I went so far as to install a pair of 70lb wheel weights (which I should have had from the beginning with my FEL) and a pair of tire chains. Bought the weights and chains for a bit over $200 from a dealer near Hastings. Only had her out once but the chain ends seem to like to knock on the fenders and going to have to tie them up to make sure they don't slap anything expensive down there.
Since snow is light this year am having my eyes enlarged to try to spot a good deal on a used blower or at least a front quick hitch for the time being. Perhaps a sale on a cab, too.
