I’m sure I’m posting this in the wrong spot but I figured that the most knowledge of old stuff would be here. My neighbor has asked me to help him with a Allis Chalmers tractor from the early 60s. It has a Briggs 23D engine. I can’t figure out where the wire coming from the ignition switch goes on the points. There’s also a short wire coming out from the points with a ring on it that really doesn’t seem to have a home. Engine runs great but won’t shut off because the ignition wire isn’t hooked up. Thanks for your help

I am pretty sure the wire with the ring on it is ground. They shut that engine by grounding the points out. But one of them wires has to be ground if it will not shut off.

My Briggs 9 hp on the log splitter has the same ground ring off the on/off switch.
