Any recommendations on a good broadcast spreader for a JD 2305? Got a quote on a Frontier from the local JD dealer, but looking for alternatives. Must be capable spreading sand.

Would also appreciate any links to Canadian dealers you may have....

I've heard the Herd spreaders are nice...seen one, and they LOOK nice, but I've never used one.
Me...Myself, I'm a fan of the Pendular type spreaders because of the ability to change the spread patterns, etc...but the cost isnt a "Bright Spot" LOL!

Are you looking at a trailer stye or 3pt? I myself went with the Frontier SS2036B 3pt hitch style. I pulled trailers for years and now will not go back. In my opinion the 3pt is the only way to go. It is way easier to maneuver around the yard. Mine is the poly hopper with stainless steel gates. I am not sure of the impeller material, either plastic or stainless, great for salt. It said it wasn't quick hitch compatible but I found I could work around that and made it adaptable. Sorry can't help you with the Canadian dealer thing. So what model did you get quoted?
Ya, apparently Herd is the only company that makes one that works with wet sand too...

Thanks for the links!

Hey Randy, thanks for the reply. Will be going with a 3pt. for sure. Model quoted by the dealer was SS1067B, Cdn. price is $700 + tax, and they need to add an agitator to it.

That would be a good choice. I kinda liked the plastic and stainless for rust prevention. When all said and done I think mine was about $950 USD.

Here is the broachure.

I also, looked closely at the LandPride units when I was considering the purchase.

Thanks again, the brochure shows that the 10 series are rated for seed and lime. Think it will be okay for sand? Dealer does, as long as they put the agitator in and the sand is dry and not crusher run....

:thumbup1gif: Yeeeuuup, I agree with your dealer. You should be fine with the optional agitator.
Herd M-96...I wish I had one!
Sweet! Also found several local Landpride dealers, got emails into them...

Here is a quote I got directly from them 2 years ago when I was going to get one-and my local dealer was jerking me around:

Dear Ken,

If you would buy the seeder directly from us, the cost of the seeder would be $441.00 and the UPS shipping would be approximately $55.00. Most dealers will give you a discount, but I can see that your dealer is quite pricey. I don't understand why he is charging so much, as he gets a discount from us.

If you want to purchase the seeder through us, just call us on our toll free line, 866-753-6311 and we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Thank you
Hm, very reasonable... A Frontier is $700, and a Landpride is $775 in Cdn. dollars, plus taxes. Might have to look into Herd too...

Stoopid Question Time

Why and what makes a herd spreader better than other spreaders? I'm looking for a good spreader and I like the poly types for rust and rot control. I'm learning here so I am open to enlightening information.:unknown::good2:
I'm a newbie, but for me the big attraction to Herd is that it will spread wet sand. Don't think any other manufacturer advertises that.

Thanks, but TSC isn't in Canada, and I don't think they ship here as either.. There are a couple in Maine though, may need to take a road trip...:thumbup1gif:

I was at TSC yesterday evening, and I went out in the ''yard'' to look at something that I'm going to build!

I noticed TSC sells spreaders... I Don't know anyone that owns that one.

Here's the link..---> TSC ''Poly Hopper Spreader''

.
I had this one...

Not the poly one, but metal. I got rid of it because it was so large and I needed it on a smaller scale. Worked very well for me. I have no clue how it would do with sand...

I think they have mastered the metering on the Herd's, so you get a well controlled spread with different sized materials. In all the searching I did, I never read a bad thing about them or the after sale support.
Okay gang. Found a Frontier 1067 on Kijiji, sorta like Craig's List. Guy says he never used it, comes with an agitator, for $650. Problem is that it is designed for i-match, which I don't have. I do know that the i-match option has to be ordered from the factory, when the spreader is ordered, bit I don't have i-match. Anyway to make this work with just the 3-pt hitch, by takinhg off a bracket, etc?
I have never seen anything that is I-match only. When things are ordered Imatch compatable, they are just sent with the bushings needed to make it work. You will have no issue using this with a normal cat 1 3 point hitch.

Congrats! Glad you found one! Go get it!
