Converted the regular duty materials bucket to a more heavy duty version. Added 5x2x5/16 angle to the top. Then pad eyes chain hooks and a hitch receiver.

I use Rust Reformer primer. You can buy it at All parts houses and Walmart. It converts rust to a primer and etches the metal so the paint will bond. I’ve used it on all my 40-50 year old implements after cleaning them this winter. I then put a coat of paint on them. My box blade had never been painted since I built it about 15 years ago.

Its a 6 foot bucket. Should I prime before painting?

I was always taught to prime bare metal. Must be something to it because i've seen implements and other items not primed that seem to not hold up even to my crappy spray can prime/ paint methods over the years.
