Bucket mount for the dump trailer

I bought a 14' dump trailer after buying my 1025R TLB. It was appropriate for the size and worked well. Now, after buying a 2032R TLB, it's a little on the short side. So came up with a plan in my head and took a few measurements. First stop was the machine shop to buy some steel and they get busy.

1.5" x 3.5" rectangular tubing was the choice as it fits in the stake pockets. I tacked two pieces stacked together.

Test fitting the vertical pieces into the stake pockets.

I will be using pins to hold it in place once done. I bought these pins at Menards and they come with the keeper pins cabled on to prevent loss.

Welded up and ready for the cross beam layout.

I grabbed a few pairs of Vice-Grips that I picked up on Clearance a few months back. Using a strip of wood for the cross beams to sit on while tacking.

Cross beams are 1.5" x 1.5" square tubing.

After tacking the beams, I brought it back in the shop to weld.

Next up, cross pieces where the bucket or grapple sits clamped in place.

Welds done and ready for the next step. I will be capping the ends of the tubing. I cut some 1.5" flat bar and rounded the edges.

Then welded them on to close off the ends. The bottoms of the vertical stake pockets will be left open.

All caps welded on and touched up a few corner welds. Welding done.

Time for a real test fit.

From inside the trailer, looking at the bucket mount.

I brushed some Rust-Oleum primer on it Tuesday. I was hoping to the black Wednesday but got called for overtime at the station. Working my duty today and again tomorrow with another 24 overtime shift. So the black paint will wait till Saturday.

More to come. . . in a few days.

Thank you gentlemen.

I'm also looking forward to using it and putting it to work. I have a grapple that will also ride at times in place of the bucket.

Heck, I'm just looking forward to getting it done. There's more irons in the fire.

Looks great. I'm jealous of guys who can weld well. Mine looks like a flock of pigeons *pooped on a park bench. 😟

EDIT: I specifically chose that word (rhymes with hat) to avoid profanity but you still don't like it??

All you need is a grinder and paint to go with that welder.

Looks good.

We all have to start somewhere I mine aren't perfect.

Practice, practice and practice.

Got it painted black today.

As I painted it, I thought about rolling a layer of this Rust-Oleum bed liner on the top for extra protection.
