Hello all!

Im in an intresting position, I have transitioned from running my own buisness, which own'd two 1025r TLB's and a couple excavators, to working for a natinal contractor. As a result the buisness's equipment was sold, leaving me with my trusty 3033r cab tractor. And this is the crux of the problem!

By the time I buy the 375 Backhoe for mine, and the power beond, It adds up to well over twelve thousand dollars, with a new mini excavator out of the question, and my general adversion to used construction equipment, this has me considering a 1025r TLB to fill my backhoe void. Not to mention, even with my diesel 1-ton, My 3033r is not exactly fun to pull beetween california and washington!

So in conclusion I guess im looking for input, and maybe someone to talk me out of my renewed tractor fever.

I think it is highly unlikely that anyone here would try and talk you out of purchasing another toy, errr, tool yeah TOOL given the preponderance they have of helping you spend :gizmo:. From personal experience, having owned mine for a year ,it's the best investment my wife ever made (she bought it for me) so just do it

One thing to consider though is that the 375 backhoe is quite a bit more capable then the 260B. Not sure what you need though.

You are soooooo on the wrong site for that! :laugh:

I guess I'd ask what your needs are for a backhoe. A 1025R TLB can handle a lot of things but it has limitations just like everything else. As mentioned, a 375 is a much more capable hoe. But maybe you don't need that?

There. I tried very hard to talk you out of it. :good2:

Go do what you need and makes you happy. What else matters?

My backhoe uses would mostly consist of ditches, trails, and drainage work. The compact size would actually be an advantage for my most of my work in california I believe. A mini excavator would obviosly be more capable, but I cant quite stomach the price, or the intrest on a used equipment loan.

Better yet,Trade the 3033 in with zero financing from JD and get everything with a 3046r, 375A BH, 3rd and 4+5th SCV. Be done with it. The foot print on the the 46r is close to the 1 series and I know that my 3046r has a very sharp turning radius. Then you are maintain one vehicle. I have had the 1 and the 2 series and just moved to the 3046r this year and love it.

I was considering, and would prefer that, but was quoted 67 thousand, and with a 3033r cab trade in being worth 25-28k, its more than I can stomach.

since you have had both sizes of tractors you know the capabilities.....but.....it would be like pulling teeth to get me to downsize from the 3 with a cab.......to a 1 .....no matter the cost of the backhoe....

the only reason i would consider it would be if i absolutely had to have a small size due to access..


i also cant comprehend a 4000# tractor unit being that difficult to haul....vs a 2000# unit .......with a diesel one ton truck

i regularly haul with NO issues 10,000# units with my single rear wheel diesel one ton.....just gotta make sure brakes are working.....when i load up a 4 series tractor #5000 it seems like nothing...(maybe you have a trailer problem, i use a T6, PJ bumper tilt TFaxles 14k with brakes)

also buying used implements at market does imply the are fully depreciated so the resale is at full price should you change your mind......of corse the PB would be probably a no-gain on the tractor price if sold

only drawback i can see is having to clean the bugs off the tractor cab windows after a haul

buttttttt ....if i want something i can figure out how to justify it even if it isnt practical .......good luck sir :munch:

Everyone’s needs are different but when I upgraded from my 1025 to my cabbed 3046 it was night and day for me even with the much larger payment. I like the idea of the 3046 route. I never had difficulty pulling it with my 2005 6.0 liter diesel. I also felt more legitimate arriving at the job since it looked like a tractor while the 1025r looked like a toy... especially with my 6’5” frame on it. Lol

On the towing issue, My truck is rated to haul nearly 18,000 lbs, That said, even 10,000 lbs is not fun to pull from washington to california, over several mountain ranges! and in california, any trailer weghing more than 9,999 puts me in cdl teritory.

Sounds like a new 1025R TLB is coming !!! Please post pics of your new purchase . :greentractorride:
