I'm getting ready to build a new cabin on the hunting property. It will be post and beam construction so I needed 6-14ft cedar 6"x6" for the floor support beams. My friend has a bandsaw wood milling machine so we spent the day cutting and hauling cedar. He agreed to mill my beams in exchange for enough cedar to build a 4'x16' dock. Good trade! He brought his New Holland skidster over with grapples. That sure made the job go easier. I look forward to the beams.

That whole deal sounds so cool! I hope you keep the progress photos coming.
Will do. I meet with the building inspector and land use official Monday morning to get my permits. I'll need to wait for the frost in the ground to melt to begin to level the site.

Does the cedar need to sit a while before building? Holy smokes can you imagine what that lumber would cost at a supply yard with the crazy prices we have this year? And not near the quality that you will have.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that I need to wait. These 6 beams will will create three rows, 28ft long. Each row will be supported by 5 concrete pillars, 15 total.

I spent a couple more days up at wood cutting weekend to begin the new cabin project. I prefabed all of the floor joist into boxes for easy installation. I fired up the 420C and began transporting sand to the site. We loaded the boxes and cedar beams on the wagon and transported them to the site with the 750. We unloaded them with the 420U. Heading back up in a couple of weeks to set the pillars.

It would be extremely rare that milled wood would not require drying time.....you should google that topic and listen to experienced individuals and save yourself some possible issues.....the good is cedar tends to be a low moisture wood so it drys quicker
