I asked for some guidance on improving my basic "chili" recipe, and I ended up making some pretty good steak chili. I have found some folks from Texas get pissed about what others call chili.

The new ingredients list I've been using for the chili/stew/soup. A large pot ends up costing around $22 on the ingredients. It has been well received. I give it more chili powder, garlic, and onion when I want more flavor. I also use Frank's red hot or something along those lines if I want more spice.

1lb strip steak/stir fry scissor sliced
1lb breakfast sausage hand chunked
2 onions chopped
4 garlic cloves minced (pampered chef garlic press)
3 tbsp chili powder (with cumin)
2 tsp salt
2 tsp dried oregano
1+ cup beef stock
3 cans (14.5oz) diced tomatoes drained
1 can black beans drained
2 cans kidney beans drained

1. Combine steak and breakfast sausage(broken up), onion, garlic, and seasoning in large stock pot. Cook and stir over medium heat until beef is brown. Don't drain.
2. Stir in drained tomatoes and beef stock. Heat to boiling, reduce heat to simmer, and cover. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.
3. Stir in beans. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes; stir occasionally. Stir in drained beans after boiling so that you're done in 1 hour. I keep spaghetti noodles separate so folks can add what they want. Some people freak out about noodles in chili

I modified it slightly already:

2 pounds ground beef
2 onions, chopped I use one big sweet onion
4 clovesgarlic, minced
2 tablespoons chili powder, I use wild oats brand with cumin and a few other things in it
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dried oregano, wild oats brand
4 3 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes, less tomato soup
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 2 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid more beans!
Some whole grain small spaghetti noodles
