Hello all. I am new to the forums and have been browsing/looking to see if my issue has already been answered. To start I am not the most mechanically inclined with engines; however, I think I may have an issue with my carb. I can start my mower with the choke in start. When I lower the throttle to run the engine it does a slight stutter step then shuts down. The engine will run (roughly) when the throttle is all the way to the bottom/low idle; however, when I push it back up to full the engine shuts down. I have attempted to use some carb cleaner which initially let me mow the back half of my lawn fine, but now my mower will not run. Any suggestions for someone who isn't very comfortable disassembling engine components completely will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 10-year old L(emon)-130 that is similar to yours with 100-hours on the clock. I just did my 100-hour service (oil, air, fuel filters; engine oil; grease; spark plugs) and now I can't keep mine running after putting in a fuel filter. Mine acts fuel starved now. Why in the heck a fuel filter change would cause fuel starvation makes no sense, and yes I have the filter going in the right direction. I'm going to put a fuel pump in on Monday or Tuesday.

I'm so fed up with mine I ordered a replacement with fuel injection as I have had nothing but grief with carburetors; whether it's cars, trucks, or small engines. It's supposed to ship on Monday and I hope I get it by Friday as the weeds are getting tall.

Any way, enough of my rant; hopefully T-MO will see your post as I think he is the lawn tractor expert here.

I recently removed the carb and cleaned it the best I know how without completely disassembling it. I also checked all the hoses/gaskets to/from the carb. I don't see any issues. It still refuses to run unless it's in full choke position (engine cold start).

Sure sounds like a carburetor issue to me.

I would also check for air leaks, by only running with choke on tells me it could be getting more air than it needs.

I pulled the carb today, which is a pain on a Kohler as there was so much crap to remove. It's a good thing I took pictures of it before I started tearing junk apart. Opened up the carb and it's as clean as it left the factory, no varnish, no dirt. The stupid solenoid works and there is power to it. :banghead::rocket::snipersmilie::mad:

I just offered it to my gearhead neighbor for $400 or best offer as is. If he takes it, great; if not, I'll get rid of the damn thing somehow.

By the way, can you tell that I hate my L(emon)-130? :mocking:

On my jd 737 zero turn, had an issue that ended up being the seat safety switch not making consistent contact mower ran awful, just like it was running out of fuel. In my troubleshooting adventure I replaced the vacuum fuel pump in doing so I pulled off the hoses by accident when I reinstalled I put screw clamps on the lines to make sure I was getting a good vacuum, worth a try

Air leak maybe

It is not clear from your comments if the tractor will only run with the choke out. But if that is the case, then that is a give away that it has to be an air leak somewhere. Examples of places to look for is the intake manifold, if it has one, the place where the carb bolts to the engine, or the carb itself, like maybe a crack in carb housing inside or out, or anywhere around the head where air could leak into the intake channel. There is also the possibility of a worn gasket on the carb butterfly valve. I presume that the needle jets are tight and all are adjusted and in place.

The thought of an air leak did cross my mind. What puzzles me is why changing a fuel filter would bring on this problem as it makes no sense. Any way, my neighbor is going to take it off my hands on Wednesday.

are you sure you didn't put the filter on backwards, ot maybe it is blocked someway?
