Brian, that is the way my pole building is done also, spliced in treated at the base. My pole building is a Cleary.

Truck bed liner. Linex

I have no clue if its good or bad for the wood. Some say it will hold in moisture, others say it will keep it out. I did it to protect it from cement as most say cement will eat away at the posts. Who knows.:boredom:

OH yeah, I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Well, I doubt it will hurt anything. I think Cleary guaranteed the posts for 30 years, half way there. I will be an really old man by then.:yahoo:

Yes these posts are laminated 2x8's so the bottom is treated. Supposed to be stronger in the long term. We had the building erected this past summer and will be working on concrete and finishing out the inside ourselves. This building is at my parents and is one of many on our farm. My dad is retired after 30 years on the farm and this will be a good "play" area for him...
