Deere shutting down cut factory?

A salesman at my JD dealership said all cut orders have to be in by 10/20/10 as they are shutting the factory down for a couple of months. Any body else hear this?

No, but if it is like the car industry, they need to shut down for tooling change over for the new model. This happens when there are major changes in a design.
I have been talking about ordering a x749 and a 4320 and there has been no such talk. Even last night.

That's what I thought, but no major changes coming. He said they don't have enuf orders? Maybe to get cuts emission compliant? Or maybe he is pulling my leg.

Or maybe to get you to spend money now.

Having enough orders is a viable answer. The line is efficient when at capacity. It would not make sense to run an assembly line less than its efficiency. Then throw in all the option combinations and how do you build any stock for that? I doubt it would pay to try and pump out generic units as the car industry does. Now nothing says this isn't a sales gimmick like others have already mentioned, unless you can varify it.

Yea I thought he was pulling a sales gimmick. And the store manager said he hasn't heard that. And he just got back from JD product announcement in Fl.

I believe the Announcement he just got back from is the Turf one which was in Sarasota FL....the AG/Tractor one was this past August in Cincinnati, OH.

Maybe the plant he's talking about is the turf equipment plant in Fuquay-Varina, NC
