Drove new 1026R Yesterday

I've been having some trouble with my X748 with the full time 4 wheel drive which my dealer has been unable to resolve. In reverse operation only, it tears up the turf much like the mechanical 4 wheel drive X595 did when I failed to disengage the 4 wheel drive when turning. Again, only in reverse operation and it started to do it back in October. I really noticed the problem when I was backing up my two wheel trailer with a load of firewood into the garage and noticed the left front tire was just about ripped loose from the rim and there were large black tire marks on the concrete from the tire scuffing.

The dealer has adjusted the rear to front wheel timing to within the factory specs so that it isn't the problem. But the problem still remains. My dealer hasn't given up and has been in contact with Deere to work on a solution.

Which brings me to this post. I've been following the release of the new 1023 and 1026R tractors and was rather impressed with what I saw. I liked the fact that a three point hitch and 540 pto was standard and that the cost was fairly close to a X748. But I really didn't want another tractor with a ROPS. I have a 3720 compact utility that I use for my larger tasks and my X748 is for mowing, spraying and snow removal. I have a 54" blade and 47" snow blower on the 748. Dealing with a ROPS while mowing is something I wanted to avoid.

That is until yesterday. I made the mistake of test driving a new 1026R and couldn't believe what Deere has done with this tractor. It turns short, not quite as short as the 748, but still impressive. But the comfort and feel while driving is nice. So, the dealer is working a trade price for me.

Darn, I wish Deere would stop doing this to me. Each time it costs me money.

When I mowed for the first time with my 1026R I was impressed with the R4 tires. I thought it was going to tear up the yard. That wasn't the case at all. My yard is sloped and it was late fall so the ground was very damp. The tires were wet during mowing but it didn't scuff or tear up the yard. I appreciate the ROPS when mowing because of my slopes. The 1026R is a great mower in my opinion:good2: better than the commercial walk behind mower I own.:thumbup1gif:

When we got our 2320 I was not really looking to trade, and the wife definitely wasn't. I do not remember just why we were at the dealership but... The new 2320 was on the showroom floor so I hopped on. The owner asked, "want to take it for a spin"? Well Dah! The owner of the dealership opened a set of big glass doors and I backed it out. I backed out about 20 feet or so, ran the FEL, pulled it back in to the show room and said I'll take it. The wife.........well that's another story. Traded the 1988 JD650, end of story.
FWIW, The owner of the dealership was the same owner back in 1988 and he sold us the 650. Life is good. The 2320 is light years ahead of the 1988 models.

I will agree about the R4 tires, I thought the same thing about tearing up the grass with the R4's on my 2305 Deere, but after mowing with the R4's, I have had no major issues with the R4's.
